Need help deciding to keep or sell
Hey Mates,So I am deciding if I should get rid of my car or just keep it and replace the engine.I had a compression test done on my car..Cylinder 1 and 2 130..And I ran my car for more than 30 minutes and its read compression as if my car was sitting and was cold. I had a shop do a compression test for me..Its a 2006 BMW 325i..And even if I sell I dont think I would loose around $1,000 lmk what I should do..thanks

What do you feel like doing? I'd just replace the engine, how does it feel when you drive it?

So why get rid of it if it drives good?

Like you said she looks great and you took care of her ... frankly that's half the battle. Plus I'd imagine an engine replacement would net you less of a loss when you're ready to sell it in the future. Just make sure to get an engine from a known supplier with a good rep ... that has been tested and has a warranty. |

New engine in that car means its totaled. If you could do the swap yourself then it might be worth it but paying a shop will cost you nearly as much as the value of the entire car. Its definitely time to find a new ride.

Wow that car looks clean. I'd say it's worth finding an engine for. Check car-part.com, craigslist, ebay, etc. You can find used engines. In some cases you can find wrecked cars where the engine is still in the car and you can hear it run.
Engine replacement at a dealership would cost insane money. I'd shop around, I've seen used N52 engines for $1000 that run good on craigslist. You could see how much an independent shop will charge, or find some local guys willing to help you with the swap if you have space to work. Also, what is the reason for lower compression? Does the engine knock? If it is an issue with the cylinder head and not the piston or rings you could buy a good used head and swap that on or have a shop do it.

Can't speak specifically for these E9x cars, but from my experience, swapping an engine really isn't a bad job (as long as it's the SAME engine with same accessories, etc. that you are replacing). If you can find a good donor motor, that would be my route... assuming you like the car.
Or just trade it in for something else and move on with your life. Only you can decide. |
