Isn't M2 CS almost certain for 2019?

We saw all the carbon fiber M Performance body panels that will be available towards the end of this year. I'm sure BMW will not be able to recoup all their development costs from just offering them as accessories. Consider the CF roof. What were the tooling costs for that panel alone and how many really are going to have their new cars go through major surgery to have it installed?

I think it is almost a certainty that BMW will offer a 2019 or 2020 CS or CSL or GTS version of the M2 will all those CF panels installed from the factory. Why wouldn't they? No further development costs. Just additional revenue from a special model.

Thoughts?

Or the project was shelved and they then decided to sell the carbon body panels slated for the CSL to M2 and M2C owners to recoup R&D costs. When have they ever offered such elaborate Mperf parts for a M model? Personally believe those parts most certainly were for a different program and plans changed. If and when a M2 CSL does come, test mules will be seen first(6+ months before any announcement). The M4 CS was seen testing on Nürburgring well over 6 months before it was even announced. Then wait for start of production and delivery. You are at least a year away from when you first see a test mule.

Makes sense to wait for the carbon-fiber frame parts from CLAR on 2-series. 100lbs less just for that.

I agree, but at what cost. The M2 "carbon fiber" edition could be $30k+ more. These parts are not cheap. Imho

Seems if they can it would be wise to not have test mules out right now while they build hype for the M2C. Don't want people waiting to buy the S58 MY20 around the corner.

You know the more you say that, doesn’t make it any more likely to happen. For 1000th time, this generation M2 is not getting the S58.

Not happening.

Next gen M2(2022), with trickle down S58 parts from G8x M3/M4.

That is also my assumption, ride my M2 LCI and jump for the S58 then, M2 CS would be the perfect reason to introduce that engine on baby M, 2022? I thought S55 is not there for long ...

Just look at the 2016 Moto GP pace car and you will see a shot of the future.

The bigger question for some should be “do I want to pay an extra $20k for a c/csl?” Just look at m4 gts and m4 cs prices compared to a std m4 competition. With pricing like that, I don’t expect to be lining up for a cs/csl if/when it comes out.

A CS or CSL version will likely be more than just the M Performance parts bin and a tune.

BMW has already done a M2 "Performance Edition" which was just the M2 with all the M Performance parts pre-installed and then some special (nothing special) door sills. Expect a M2 Competition Performance Edition sometime soon that's more like what you're saying - everything pre installed.

The M2 CS/CSL will likely be a whole different beast.

Yeah you know but it's fun to tease that way. Why not. BMW has managed to take a car they can sell 15,000 a year of in the US and only sold just about that many over 3 years.

If BMW would put a window sticker and a 6MT in it I would put a ring on it.
