JB4 Tune

Any thoughts on this? Thinking about pulling the trigger.. it’s seems like it’s taking forever for a tune on our vehicles.

Interesting. Best Torque is at 23 lbs boost and best HP is at 25 lbs boost. With torque of 23lb being really low.
In the end, I wonder which one would make the car faster?

I logged mine stock at 20.4psi. Whatever I buy I’ll limit to +3psi for pump gas and drivetrain life.

Did they get all the bugs worked out on the JB4?

That’s my worry as well, and reliability. Is 25lbs of boost essentially too much?

EWG is the short term issue. Max Boost is relative. +5psi “might “ be fine. If you evaluate the hp per psi on the dyno graph, it’s still making gains at +5, but the per psi gains are higher at +3......so the compressor is closer to the center of the island. I’m sticking with +3 since it is killer power and I’ve run my X5M at +3 for 26,000 miles with zero issues. 60rwhp gain is a nice punch.

How do I purchase a JB4 in the green state of California. I live 30 minutes away from their shop and they responded that they cannot sell me the JB4 because I am in CA.

I don’t know why they are selling unfinished product seriously!!
The car is way to lean
There is a fuel issue
And boost problem that they have to fix before sales ...

I am waiting for the final product
To get a proper tune

Since AFR was monitored on a DJ, I’m not too concerned about it just yet. Could be an issue, but an inertia dyno doesn’t really load the engine, plus the dyno run is very quick, plus the wideband response time varies. Best AFR Check is on the track at wot for at least 8 seconds. Then we can see what’s up. I do know my M5 has a much leaner factory cal than my X5M. 2 different exhaust systems on the X5M sooted the inside tips Black in a few miles. M5 is still new clean at 1,400 miles.

I do agree it’s wayyyy to early to purchase. EWG’s have to be sorted.

I was going to have mine shipped to a buddy out of state, and have him send it my way.

I agree about the lean mixtures but after logging the car and understanding how it works, I believe bmw has set it up for very lean mixtures in the first gear pull wether you’re 1st, 2nd or even 4th on the hit. The car will start mid 14’s and as you’re going through the gears it richens up to mid 12’s and have even seen it go into the 11’s. I’m sure this was for emission purposes while still being safe. As the car goes through the rpm and gears it starts to richen up, I’m sure it all depends on how long in the gear and as it starts to get hot.

These are things that I’ve noticed through my personal experience and can say the car runs great. Wether stock or JB4 AF’s are consistent in the way start lean and richen up.

Good luck to everyone and congrats on their new F90 Beast.

From what I’ve noticed OEM Verse jb4 car is running the same but with more boost, no drivetrain codes other than the WG codes that come on here or there but he already has a simple fix to resolve it. I’m sure once JB4 is ready it will be a great mod and not much time to install either.

I love the jb4 because you can log and see how the car is running at all times, not a guessing game, while having map options per setup. My car is running a little inconsistent right now because I’m always building and adding mods to it so it’s always having to adapt. But once I’m done and car is fully adapted will share all the data testing, Dyno, and dragy 60-130mph.

As for tuning options I’m sure we are a couple months away but I feel a backend flash / jb4 will be the best setup, we can set fuel, timing for best results while having jb4 map options for what ever setup you want. I’m sure there will be some who don’t want to mess with it and want just a straight up tune but for now you have the option to be a lot stronger then stock.

Is the harness updated with the extra wire needed or do you have to add it yourself ?

I don’t know, I just opened the box and had to leave on a trip. What’s the extra wire it’s supposed to have?

Some beta testers had an alarm if they used the EWG connection, which you really need for the full JB4 benefit. Terry found that adding an extra wire to the loop eliminated the alarm. He is posting a “how to add” on his site. I would do that before installation.
