Wireless charging - orange light
Hey Folks,
Recently picked up a wireless charging case for my iphone 7 to try out the wireless charging feature. While it works, I find fairly often when I look down there's an orange light. I'm not sure of the exact cause: sliding phone, heat, lack of a closed lid, not great case? The case has a smooth plastic/metal back with rubber bumpers around the edge, so it's not super sticky, but doesn't slide like it's on ice either. Regardless, I'm assuming my my driving moves the phone around and off the wireless charging spot. Does closing the lid really play a part? I'm not convinced my phone is getting overly hot for the short times it's been charging Or, is it just a crappy case that doesn't perform the wireless charging feature very well? Doesn't have a ton of reviews on amazon, but they're somewhat mixed, leaning towards the positive. |

I’ve never seen an orange indicator light. My phone has wireless charging built-in and the phone does move around depending on how enthusiastically I’m driving but if it stops charging the blue indicator just goes out. My guess is that it might have an issue charging with that particular case.

According to the manual, blue indicates that it is charging actively; the LED will turn off if it stops charging or the battery is full. Orange indicates that the device isn't charging, possibly due to overheating or a 'foreign object in the charging tray'. Red means you need to bring it in for service as something is broken.
Since it's orange, perhaps it's some incompatibility or something else with the case itself. |

Manual is nice enough to inform me that orange means not charging, but just dunno exactly why - hence the feedback from others on their experiences.
Note: I can get a blue light, and more often than not do have a bluelight when I set my phone down. Usually when I check later it's orange. Suppose I could try adding sticky tack or something to help the phone stay in place and see if that makes any diff (to determine if it's the phone sliding around) |

I have a similar experience. I bought an original BMW case, so that my iphone 7 could be used in the wireless charger. When putting the phone on the charger, blue led will shine. After some minutes (2-3), the led went to orange..... Taking the phone off and back on the charger, the blue led remained blue...... This happened 3 drives after each other.
Yesterday, I pulled the phone out of the case and put it back thouroughly again. This morning, put my phone on the charger, it loaded and stayed blue for 1,5 hours. See what it does this afternoon, but looks indeed something to do with the "case".... Greetings from the Netherlands. |

I have the same issue. However I think it is related to my iphone case (BookBook). Since I've cleaned my case, charging works most of the time.
Strange thing is that I had a G31 (5 touring) for the last three months and in that car the charging worked flawless (same cover, more dirt in the cover, and (much) hotter temperatures outside). Only diffrence I can tell is that the X3 has a (diffrent) bigger charging pad. |

Maybe the distance to the charging coil(s) are getting to long? Some people say that a few millimeter of extra case can drastically limit the charging. Add some dirt to that. And perhaps that a pen or other metal object made their way into the charging tray ...
Anybody saw a sketch of the coils in the charging tray? I would assume there are more than one ... /n |

I think it is a heat issue for phones with built-in wireless charging.
I have an S9 plus and case or not, sometimes it will flip from blue to orange and give a "chirp chirp" through the audio system. If I take it out the tray and put it back in it, the blue light comes back for maybe 5 minutes. However when I feel the phone it is very warm to the touch. If I turn off music streaming and waze, the phone cools down and I don't have any issue with keeping the blue light. iPhone users...I got nothing. Could be the case, contacts, heat, etc. If its not a factory component, any number of things could be causing the amber light.

My iPhone X w/ Apple Leather Case reliably charged on the wireless center console for the first month or so, but of late I have the blue light for just a few minutes and then it reliably switches to orange and stops charging.
I've tried removing it from the case and that doesnt seem to help. Now I wonder if there is an issue with the wireless charger itself since I have wireless charging at both home and the office that otherwise work fine (so it's not the phone). Not important enough to take it to the dealer to get looked at yet, but I'll have them take a look at it during my next service appointment. |

Bump... I am having the same issue. Apple leather case on iphone x. Light is blue for 30 seconds maybe, then reliably switches to orange and does not charge the phone. Has anyone resolved?

Do you have another wireless charger to test to be sure your case is not too thick to allow charging? If not, take your case off and test your phone to see if it charges normally without the case. If it still doesn’t, you’ll need to have it checked at the dealer.

You could remove the + battery connection from the battery in the trunk but I doubt that will help your problem. Good luck getting it fixed.

No heat to speak of. I am in San Francisco so temps are 55-65°. Phone can achieve blue light (flashing and solid) sometimes but 90%+ of the time I put my phone in the tray the light flashes orange after a few blue flashes. I have used a working wireless charging tray before so think it is the unit itself. No issues with my other wireless chargers at home either. Unless someone here figures out a reset I am taking the car into dealer 2 weekends from now and will post my experience/resolution. Bummer

Normally I find closing the roller panel helps, however I just did a 10h Drive with the panel open had virtually zero issues with it going uncharged over the entirely trip. I’m still using the original iPhone 7 and same aftermarket case.
