I am looking to trade in my 2012 328i f30 on a 2017 X3 xDrive28i. The asking price seems a little high being that it is old generation and I am looking for advice on this model. What do you guys think?

I can't help but think that you'd be missing out on so many design, technology, and safety improvements that were introduced with the latest generation X3. Have you test driven a 2018 model as a comparison? The resale values would likely be higher in the future too, given the redesign. At least with a test drive, you'd know what you'd be missing out on.
Also, on AutoTrader, there are 2018 X3s at the $42k price range as well, and with similar options as the 2017 model, around $48k. |

Agree with @abcsoup
Maybe a dealer vehicle, loaner or demo model if a lower price is what you’re looking at paying to be able to get into gen 3 |

Too high. There are quite a few cpo g01 x3’s now in my city that are between $40-45k. I agree with others that the new design is such an upgrade to the previous bodydtule that it is worth the search for the new design.
