Apple Car Play notifications

I’ve been using Car Play for a few weeks now and am left feeling meh in general but my main gripe is that I don’t get notifications when outside of the car play interface. Is this everyone else’s experience as well? I finally deactivated Car Play all together because I found it infuriating that I would get text messages but had no such indication of the messages until I returned to Car Play. At least now by using regular Bluetooth, I get text notifications in my speedo cluster as well as the top ribbon in idrive.

I get notifications from outside, at least while in the main menu. It's actually kind of annoying. The screen switches to the CarPlay screen then as soon as the banner goes away it switches back to the main screen.

In my 18 X3 I've seen the same behavior that notifications only appear while in CarPlay mode. Also the TuneIn app doesn't work well with the CarPlay.

However using the same phone in my wife's 17 X5 both issues aren't issues with CarPlay in her car. So I believe it's an issue with the software version in our X3s.

Yes, even in my 18 X3 tunein does not work well. I took it to the dealer to take a look at it. They said it’s the Apple car play software issue and that they can’t do much about it. And some times the car play just “freezes”. There is a issue with the car play for sure.

Hmmm I don't know if I agree with that dealer. As I said using the same phone in my wife's X5 that has CarPlay as well doesn't have any of these issues. If the phone is the same the only thing different is that the cars are on different software versions. I will be curious when iOS 12 comes out in September if it will work better with our X3s in case it is the phone software that for some reason doesn't work the same in different BMWs.

It is the App which is at fault.
I have contacted TuneIn, made a video about all the bugs (in wireless CarPlay), and hopefully they would fix it. Other radio streaming app such as myTuner Radio works fine without any issues. WhatsApp also has issues reading out messages from group chat, iMessage, OTOH, works fine.
