Adjusting tailgate opening height

Can someone explain this better? I have a short garage ceiling and have to limit the opening height. I’ve been manually stopping the height but that can’t be good for the mechanism.

Do you hold the opening button when it gets to the height you want? Seems like there may be a chance it goes too high if this setting procedure is attempted in the confined space?

You set the height in the settings in idrive. It’s in the doors and locks setting.

Probably a dumb question but related to this thread: if there's an obstruction when opening the tailgate, it won't automatically stop it before hitting/damaging it right? I've gotten into the habit of just opening it without checking but now realized this could probably cause noticeable damage if I'm in the wrong parking garage.

It will stop if it meets resistance. You can test it by holding your hand out as it is opening. It’s pretty sensitive but I guess it would depend more on what it is contacting as to the level of damage imposed. Does the same thing when closing but not be the one you want to use your hand for.

Mine seems to push pretty hard against my hand when I try to stop it. If it hit something I bet there would be damage.

i wouldn't risk it. i think it will hit something before it stops if you are parked too close to the wall. I'm using the mark closest to the bumper (reversing camera) as a guide.
