No Sound - 3 days after delivery

Suddenly lost all sound from my new M40i. No radio, warning chimes, navigation directions, etc.

I've powered down the car, but I'm wondering if there's an i-drive reset option that might solve the issue.

4th BWM in a row, and never had something like this happen before. Hope it's not a sign of what's to come.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Not being a smart ass but I’m assuming you have hit the power button on the volume. I’m not sure which sounds are dependent on that volume but I know some are. I wouldn’t know what else to check after that.

I've tried everything. The seat belt chimes don't work either, so it's definitely not a setting issue. I was hoping after letting the car sit through it's power down cycle that the issue would have resolved itself. Wishful thinking I guess.

Have you checked the fuses in the car? Perhaps one blew for the audio systems and just needs to be replaced.

You could also try disconnecting the negative cable on the battery for 5 mins to see if it resets the DME.

I will check the fuse. It's possible that the amplifier is separately fused, but I would think the warning gongs (seat belts, etc) would not be coming through the amp. If it is blown, the bigger question would be why did it blow. Thanks for the suggestion.

In my 2011 X3, holding down the radio on/off button for a while (over 20 seconds?) would cause the navi/radio/entertainment systems to reboot. Does it work the same in the M40i?

the audio volume knob, "can not" cancel any mandatory vehicle warnings.
Warnings are by safety regs on seperate circuits. Creature comforts and notices yes.
Dealer time for bad dog codes. Its under warranty ! Call ahead and get a loaner !

am item or two you mention was just fix on my X3, thru replacement of the head unit.
re-load, reflash firm ware . . . . under warranty. . . . . . 15 days.

Dealer says the amplifier needs to be replaced. Part has to come from Germany, and I'm told it's 7-10 days until arrival. I think they're setting my expectations low, hoping to get it sooner.

So, I continue to put miles on the X3 loaner, which will make getting back into the M40i even better. Hope they diagnosed the right component as faulty!

Based on what you said, that all sounds are gone, even the normal car gong sounds, I think it's pretty damn likely it's the amp. I think you'll probably be fine
