Price paid for paint protection film for M40i?

Hi Guys,

was getting a quote from a local paint shop for full paint protection film price.

Then they quoted me $8,000 dollars.

How much did you guys pay for paint protection film?

That rain really bothering you huh. A full wrap is kind of overkill unless you're gonna keep the car long term or really can't wash the car for long periods of time. I would just get the high impact areas like the front bumper, fenders, hood, mirrors and A pillars. Should be like $2000-3000.

Like others said, full PPF is kind of overkill. Personally, I had Suntek Ultimate PPF applied on the hood, bumper, front fenders, mirrors, pillars, rocker panels, lower part of doors, and the tailgate loading area for about $2500. I also got a ceramic coating applied in addition to that for the whole car, including wheels/calipers, which makes things much easier to keep clean.

Again, it depends on a lot of factors, but front PPF with ceramic is cheaper and probably a better option than full PPF for most budgets. Full PPF with ceramic would be amazing, although I probably wouldn't do that unless my car were over $100k.

Haha, they must not like you, the entire car should be no more than $3000-3500. I did the whole front, plus various other spots for $1000.

I was quoted

$90 for just the rear cargo bumper
$1200 for front bumper and partial hood
$2000 for full hood, and high wear areas (like door handles).
$4000 for the whole vehicle

All prices $CAD. I didn't go with any of it.

I wouldn't go for any protection, enjoy the car as designed to be enjoyed. If I over last the car to see it deteriorate, I'm a happy camper. at worst you'll repaint for cheaper.

A repaint will look like crap whereas the paint underneath PPF will remain pristine.

I've only driven 1500 miles and already have 4 rock chips that needed touch up paint.

It sucks but the PPF reminds me of those that keeps the plastic protection around their new electronics or furniture.

I'm just gonna tough it out and make sure to put on a good wax every now and then. Maybe a ceramic coat?

Yea but you can't see PPF once it's on. Just imagine what your paint will look like in a year. Wax, sealant, and ceramic coating won't protect against rock chips.

That is ridiculous and I'm guessing your place has never quoted this product or done the work before. Assuming your car cost $60k and the quote was $8k for paint protection gives you about 13 percent of the value. That's bad insurance. How long do you plan to keep your car? What are your trying to achieve with paint protection? Just go buy yourself some paint sealant and put it on yourself for $50.

I agree, that is a ridiculous quote. I am going with another shop who will do the front end for around $1,200.

In San Diego I was quoted $700 for front end (includes headlights). $300 for 1/3 of hood. I’ll be keeping this car for at least 4 years, so I’ll probably have it done. There is a product that works fantastic for rock chip repair, and that’s Langka blob Eliminator; I’ve had great success using it on my other cars. I’d like to find a film to prevent windshield rock chips.

There are films for windshields but technically not road legal and my PPF installer said they don't last nearly as long or as good as the PPF for paint. Maybe 1-2 years. Mostly for temporary track use. If you're looking for a good PPF installer I highly recommend Adonis Detail in Vista.

You never said which PPF. Like it or not, that's a (slightly high?) ballpark price that many XPEL installers are charging for a full X3 body wrap. That would be ridiculous for 3M or LLumar, which should be a lot lower.

You can see XPEL-recommended installer pricing here (but for a Tesla, which I assume would be slightly cheaper): https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/posts/1918704/ (sadly, the one and only XPEL installer in my area seems to be charging those prices).

Getting my X3 soon and am thinking:
1) Xpel - bumper, full hood and fenders, mirrors, headlights. Though some store recommended 3M scotch guard.

2) Ceramic coating. (Ceramic pro?)

Any thoughts on what's reasonable pricing?
