Front windows tinted to match.
Someone had written a while back asking about matching window tint. Apologies for being to lazy to find post. ;-)
In MN, Ziebart does pretty decent job with window tint. I've had a number of cars tinted there over past 20 years. Manage looked at my car. I told him I'd like front side windows to match factory rear side windows. He's been working in the business 25 years. He took one look at my car (U.S. X3 M40i) and said 20%. He indicated front windows have slightly green hue from factory in front glass. He also pointed out that factory glass tint is dyed into the glass, not a film application put on later. He said cannot match 100% but will look pretty close. In MN, law is 50% or lighter. 20% is not legal. They do it but you sign a waiver. The percent is how much light gets through. I had him do front sides @ 20% match and apply same to back, rear glass (making it even darker). So, 3 windows. Price was $168 out the door. (forget what enclosed sign says). I am enclosing picture showing tint used as well as resulting windows. |

It's 50% here in MN, USA. The state police and some local police carry metering equipment they put on you window and can measure. I've been pulled over many times (>50, I'm 49yrs old), 3 of those times I was tagged for window tint - two warnings, one citation. Really, they pulled me over for speeding, but, not having my speed on radar w/ lock, they wanted to give me something (and tell me to slow down). |

Same rule here in Virginia, and I as well always go with 20%. When I get pulled over, I put both windows down right away, and so far I haven't been cited for tint. In this area it seems that you can pretty much get away with illegal levels unless you do your windshield, that is what they seem to target more.
When you have been cited for it, did you have to have the tints removed and prove that or did you just pay the fine? |
