Brushed aluminium interior repair advice
So after having my car all of 48 hours i managed to chip my drivers side door pull whilst getting out, it was fairly small but I couldn't take my eyes off it and was just constantly bugging me!
After reading some things online I tried to sand it down using some extremely fine sand paper and although this got rid of the chip it has now left a larger shiny mark which is even more noticeable than the scratch there are a couple of additional fine marks that I've noticed as well (must stop getting out the car with my keys in my hand) Do you guys have any advice or tips on removing marks on the brushed aluminium trim before I eventually break and buy a brand new one. don't think you'll ever get it to a point you would be happy and it still matches.
must admit got the dealer to get me a new pearl aluminium handle on my pre-owned - was surprised how reasonable the price of the part was if you fit it yourself (plastic tools, get bottom tooth in first, bend top of handle into hole at top, as it returns to shape the rest should click into place. |

Brushed Aluminium is just a pain in the arse for getting scratched and dents, so I CF wrapped mine, looks much better, doesn’t get damaged and is warmer/cooler to the touch in winter/summer.

Don't know how much work was involved in the polishing you have already done but,
can you continue over the visible surface so there is no obvious contrast area?

Try one of those course plastic green scouring pads. Wipe with the existing grain of the aluminium on the polished area. With luck you'll get it something like.
Failing that, buy a leather steering wheel cover and use it to wrap the handle. It'll hide the marks you've already got and stop it from marking further Something like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hot-Car-T...oAAOSw8oFXzOgd Last edited by TiredGeek; 07-03-2018 at 03:00 PM.. Reason: added a bit |
