Question So who's ordering a 50i now when we know that the M50i debuts next year?

Curious who is ordering a 50i now instead of waiting next year for the 2020 X5 M50i?

Is it bc your lease is up; you don't care about the added hp/new engine; your impulsive??? I know many of us are always chasing our tail wanting the newest and shiniest, but the M50i will debut next year this time, not like several years from now with the LCI. However, my impulsivity might be getting the better of me and I know it makes more sense to wait but...

I'd wait for the M50i instead of ordering the xDrive50.

I'll be waiting on the M50i. The HP gain is too great to pass up. And that lets the first MY gremilins get worked out of the chassis (engine might be a risk, but that's what extended warranties are for). Will take a hard look at the X5M as well.

Cost Difference?

Anyone done the math on the cost difference between an x50i, including most options, compared to the upcoming M50i, similarly equipped? I assume that neither will approach the cost of the X5M, but I do not know the difference between the three. Thanks.

Think of the M50i as just another name for the xdrive50i. Other than the updated V8 (which I'm not downplaying), and a few cosmetic changes (cerium grey accents/wheels), the options/pricing will be the same.

That was my guess. Was thinking of moving up to the X5M, but do not think the additional cost would be justified compared to the new M50i. Already have an M4, don't need an SUV that can outrun it.

My thoughts exactly. A 530-HP M50i should be good enough for my needs. A tune wouldn't hurt either.

Most people who buy the first year 50i will not be enthusiasts and will probably not know or care about the M50i. As such, I think they will still sell plenty of them in year 1. I do wonder why they didn't come with the M50i first year, though? Probably have some parts to use up.

That's a tough call! I'd probably choose an X5M, Donnington Gray over Mugello Red of course

I'm considering that and another, Mineral White over Aragon

I love Aragon Brown too - could be happy with either that or the Mugello. Those interiors might be reason enough to skip the 2019 50i as it's only available with the standard non ///M line-up of interior colors.

So the X5M has about 590hp while M50i has 530? That doesn’t make sense, unless BMW will increase the price tag on M50i.

I'm sure they will! A nicely equipped M50i will likely be $100K, or more I would think. I can fully option a current F15 50i on BMWUSA.com and get it above $100K if I check all the boxes.

The HP difference between the M and non-M's won't be as much as with prior generations, but the M car will obviously drive/handle differently...they always do.

After lots of effort locating/negotiating various X5M around the country, I'm afraid I need to throw in the towel on that idea. I'm just too particular when it comes to my vehicles. I cannot believe how some people take care of their cars. I know I'm anal/ocd, but my God, people are slobs and could not careless about their property based on some I have test driven. Also, reviewing some of the warranty inquires gave me pause.

So...maybe me being a Beta Tester for a '19 50i is back on the table...only to start bitching this time next year when the M50i debuts...it never ends!!!
