Panoramic sunroof - dead?
Hi all,
As I parked at work this morning, I tried to close the shade of the sunroof as I do every morning... nothing. Can't open or close the shade or roof anymore. All four windows work fine - tried from inside the car and from outside using the remote... Has anyone had that happen before? Is there any setting that would prevent the roof from operating? When I press the switch I hear a click but nothing else happens. Going in on Thursday - but just wondering if I am missing something... Thanks! |

My understanding is to do a full reset you push up on the sunroof button and keep it held down for several minutes. The sunroof will cycle fulling closing then fully opening the sunroom. When it stops it has fully reset.

As mentioned above...
Got into car, was able to move the shade a little but then everything stopped. Tried the reset by holding the button (to "vent" position) and after a while everything started moving going through all positions... |

Same things happened to me today just like CaliforniaDrew.
Sunroof won't open, tilt and sunshade is rolled back fully. Switch is dead. All I hear is a clicking sound when pushing the sunroof switch forward. I did a reset by pressing the sunroof tilt switch and holding it for 15 seconds - the sunroof cycles - open, tilt and close. But the sunshade does not move at all. After the reset cycle - no luck sunroof won't open or tilt. Booked in with the dealership next week. How did your dealership rectify this? Thanks |

How much stripping was done to your vehicle to replace the sunroof motor and how long did it take to replace? Thanks again. |

They had my car for three days, the motor had to come from Germany to the UK. ( from initial book in, diagnosis and fitting new part)

2500 miles and two months since I picked it up. First time I used sunroof it stopped working. Shade closed then when opening shade it moved two inches and it stopped. Won't reset by holding button, heading to dealer this Friday.
Update: Decided to try to disconnect the battery. First of all its in the trunk/boot under the storage tray. Two plastic screws half turn and there she is. disconnected the negative terminal "10mm nut" for a couple of minutes, reconnected and it looks like all memory was saved and the roof works again like a champ. Also, I checked for the battery on left side under hood by cowl and the plastic cover was unlocked from the factory. Hope she wasn't built on a Monday morning or late Friday............... Then pulled fuses behind glove box, #7 and #41, reinsert. After hard reset, radio powered on. Love it. This remind me, i need to get to know this X3 like i have for other cars, starting with where all are the fuses... |

We have a brand new '18 X3 M40i with 1500km on it, less than a month old and I used the sunroof today for the 2nd or 3rd time I believe and it got stuck.
Sunshade was closed and I decided to ventilate the sunroof by pushing up on the button. It opened, then the sunshade started to roll back 3" and now everything is dead. Going in to dealer on Monday. I will try and hold the button in for a couple minutes to 'reset' but I tried holding everything for a good 30 seconds each way with no sound or anything happening. Also noticed our exhaust heat shield and passenger side is drooping down. |

The battery disc worked for me, 10 mm wrench disc the negative, give it a few minutes. Someone said tap the brake pedal I did , but that shouldn't do anything. I didn't want them ripping my vehicle apart if possible. Totally understand not wanting to take a wrench to it. My car was only eight weeks old with only 2500 miles. The thought of them taking my headliner apart and creating warranty work on a vehicle I purchased overrode the concern..... |
