Colour Help

Lads/ladies

I have my order in for the M40D in Phytonic blue but i keep changing my mind in my head and have very little time now to change the colour as far as im aware.

I have used the search button and have seen a few but im looking for anyone who has the M40i with 718M wheels in Sophisto Grey/Sapphire Black & some different shots of the Phytonic Blue ( i know there are loads on the net but all quite pro shots) would help i suppose.

If you do and fancy posting a few pictures it would be much appreciated!!

I should not be alowed near new car orders...........

Thanks

Is there even a question...
(BTW, 699M is my winter setup, but I wanted to include those pics in order to provide you with as my hues of the Phytonic Blue, same reason for including pics of my M3)

Don't know whether you've seen this chaps thread but he has the sophisto/ dark graphite with 719 wheels.

His thread:

M40i has landed. https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1506940

I too have the M40 in dark graphite but I have the 699s and can honestly say no pictures do this color justice. It's just way too dynamic in person and the cerium gray accents go very nicely with the dark graphite making it look almost uniform.

Here's some pics of mine but like I said, it's a color you have to see in person AND on the M40 not just any other car.

Jay, thank you. That link you have attached is perfect. The car looks amazing in grey!!

The problem is I can't really see any m40 at the dealers as no one has them near me.

Both colours looks so nice so far. I seen the blue on a 20d (not m trim) and it looked a big meh. But it looks so good on the 40.....

Why can't I just decide....

I'm sure you'll love either!

However, if you plan on giving it any black out treatment such as black mirror caps or black grills and eventually black boomerangs, then maybe not grey (I personally don't thing they would look good).

I vote strongly for the blue. It’s just such a beautiful color.

I've ordered the S Black, the blue is nice as I had Montego Blue on my E90 which I loved. The Phytonic blue looks very similar, it does give that sporty look to it. But the Sapphire black is a very nice color as well, it gives it a more refined look, although the black requires a regular wash as it becomes very bland when dirty. The Blue is either you hate it or you love it, go for the Blue as so many people go for these grey/black anyways so it gives the motorways a bit more color, especially as you've ordered the M40d!

You can't go wrong with either although I think the cerium grey mirror caps go better with the dark grey, still not 100% sure that they work with my blue car but used to them now

I really like the Sapphire Black, in bright light it has a really nice almost graphite grey look to it, I avoid though as I'm never very good at keeping up a cleaning regime and blue seems to hide it quite well

I still can't get my head around BMW naming of the blacks

In bright light Carbon Black looks light a Sapphire blue and Sapphire Black looks like a Carbon grey :

I was wavering going for the grey, in the end I have switched to carbon black as you get that blue shine to it, but it also looks black in some lights. It’s tough without being able to see them in the metal.

I think someone else on this forum suggested that BMW should post pictures of their cars in all the colours on their site rather than try and show them on the configurator.

I'm completely with you! Very hard to decide on color without having actual pictures. The BMW marketing pictures are also very much photoshopped so they don't give you a good picture of how the color would look like. The brochure has only a small color patch of about 3x3 and is also not the actual paint. Don't want to talk about the configurator as that's the worst indication you can have :P.
I have a sapphire black F21 and E91 so I know how the color is but still to see it on the car gives a much better impression.

I was told Carbon Black was named as such because when you write on carbon paper, it's blue underneath? IDK. That same person then wasn't able to explain why it's named black sapphire.

I had a Lexus once in what was called Black Sapphire and the car was just a really dark blue. Not sure any of it makes any sense...or matters, really

That's brilliant, quick thinking on their part, never would have considered that

'Carbon Black a homage to BMW racing heritage and thoughts of Carbon fibre', No it came from salesman's duplicate invoice pad

Your right though doesn't matter a jot, just ones of those quirks

Now Frozen Black? I look at that and it makes sense, even if it doesn't actually make any sense. Would love to get the Frozen Black on an X3. Maybe when the M comes out.
