Just when I'd bored of the 335d......
........ I took a 520d for a test drive.
Its a lovely car, much nicer than the F31, but when you press the loud pedal it's seriously lacking in welly. Having decided the 335d was increasingly pointless with police and cameras I have now reviewed that decision. Cheers Edit, damn wrong forum |

Going from a more powerful lighter car to a 520d was never going to feel as quick. Let alone quicker.

I went from a F10 20d to an F30 35d. My next car will most probably at be a G30. I don't think I could go back to a 20d. I've driven a 530e which felt sluggish I thought :
I don't think the 540d x drive is coming to the UK so I guess the only option would be a 530d x drive

But you can be caught speeding in any car, and they don't do you for acceleration, and I'd say there is plenty reasons to always have access to some welly under your right foot. There's also the noise, and a 6 pot will always sound better!

The 335d is a tough act to follow, not helped by BMW refusing to sell the 540d here. How do you find the performance of the 540i after the 335d, and what was the performance like before adding the MPPSK?

I wondered what was going on just seeing the G30 530d for sale and no 535d (or 540d). Least the new 530d is quicker on paper than previous model I guess..

The performance of the 540i was fine, not quite as quick as my 335d but that had been remapped. The main reason for the MPPSK was the noise, as moving from having diesels for the last few cars I wanted a bit of drama from the petrol engine but the sound proofing in the 5 series is too good to hear anything. The MPPSK has definitely given me what I wanted for the sound but also the performance gain is more than I thought it would be and seems to match the remapped 335d. I was impressed with the car before I had it installed but really love driving it now. It goes from an excellent family wagon to sounding and feeling a bit like a hooligan at the press of a button.
