Tuning boxes - TDI-Tuning, DTUK, Racechip etc

All,

What’s the general consensus of plug in tuning boxes for these cars? Is anyone running one of these at the moment?

I’ve had some suggested ads on Facebook etc and they claim quite a substantial increases in power for these cars. Interestingly, they market them as traceless and undedectible by your dealer, but I’ve read thats’s not the case and the technicians can tell immediately.

Also looked at the JB4, but it gets mixed reviews without going down the decat route.

Thanks
MP

If I was mapping my M2 I’d consider BM3 or MHD flashes rather than the piggy back boxes.

Tuning boxes are pretty inconsistent and the claimed increases are nothing short of ridiculous. If you want to tune, go for a proper DME flash. I've been running the Stage 1 BM3 flash on my M2 for a while now, it's been faultless with consistent and noticeable gains.

I don’t think I have the balls to go through the programming steps!

What are the gains on the BM3 when otherwise stock?

The good news is there's no programming, as such. If you can post on a forum, I have every confidence that you could follow the steps required to flash your DME successfully.

I do not have before and after dyno numbers, but I'd expect something like a 20-30bhp increase running BM3 Stage 1 on an otherwise stock car. It is noticeably faster and every bit as smooth as stock.

What OTS map are you running and what fuel do you typically buy? I’m usually between VPower or Tesco Ultimate unleaded.

Having watched an online tutorial, this looks relatively straightforward and well tested. Will give it a try.

Stage 1 98 RON with V Power, or Tesco Momentum have worked well for me. My car is mechanically stock except for the MPE.

Good luck with the flash, you'll love it!

Ecotune have good results with M2, might be worth having a chat with them, They also have some other developments in the pipeline with further tuning on these

Running BM3 Stage 2. Power is smooth and the increase in performance is brilliant. Miles better than any tuning box.

Question for the one running BM3 : can you have a STG1 and run the CEL remover ? Also does the CEL remover apply to all CEL or just the O2 Sensor CEL ?

Thanks,
