Smile Door sill set (2 pc.) LED Illuminated -BMW- original BMW

Hi folks,

I wanted to get some opinions. I have a new 2018 BMW X1, and I heard about a retro part (genuine OEM) called a "Illuminated Door Trim (BMW51472408857)" - https://www.shopbmwusa.com/Product/5...L-COVER-STRIPS

I got the part # directly from BMW Parts Canada (and I referenced this number at the the dealers I called), so I know it is correct. However, there is confusion on whether this part needs to be wired in, or if it is battery run.

I found this link (below), which clearly shows that the part uses batteries.
https://www.schmiedmann.com/en/produ...1-47-2-408-857

Does anyone have any advice or have used these?

Hi all,

Thanks for the followup. I think you are correct. This unit does NOT involve a wire-in harness.

I checked with BMW Canada, and there is no mention of a wiring harness. I think it is safe to assume that this is the magnet/battery version.

Renata Batteries

Just a bit of an update to bring closure to this thread. BMW Gallery here in Calgary confirmed that the part # 51472408857 is NOT a wiring harness, and is in fact battery driven.

I managed to find the Door sill set (2 pc.) LED Illuminated -BMW- original BMW on eBay for $100. But it doesn't come with an extra set of batteries. However, I found the batteries on Amazon. The batteries are Renata Batteries - Swiss Made - CR2430.

I decided to buy the Illuminated BMW Door Sill.

I decided to buy the Illuminated BMW Door Sill for my X1. Looks nice. Very happy with my purchase

Here is a picture of the drivers side. I've also attached a picture of the rubber magnet cover (underneath the drivers side door).

Sorry if I have misunderstood but does this light up the pavement when the door opens? Or is this just effects?
I am looking for a means of doing so when I open the door to avoid stepping in anything unpleasant on leaving the car.

Just for effect mate..........i've not got puddle lights in the door either as i'm sure you had to have the extended lighting package.

I am looking to buy these today. How long did it take you to install and is it pretty simple?

I just installed mine last night in the garage. It was maybe a 15 minute process to do both doors. The hardest part was when 2 of those yellow clips got stuck in the hole. I am very pleased with how these look in the night time.

Does anyone know if they make these for the rear door sills? I been looking online and can't find anything. It would be nice to have all 4 doors matching.
