anybody using shell rotella t6 5w-40?

Hi guys just curious to know if anybody else is running this oil in there n52? i know you guys will tell me to stop and use bmw approved ll01 oils like liquid moly 5w-30 but unfortunately ever since i bought my 325i i had to add a quart every 1k miles so for me this is a cost effective synthetic oil for my bmw

Might want to do a search, oil threads have been hashed out pretty heavily over time. I personally use Rotella T6 in nearly every ICE that I have, including my N52 and R6 without issue. I haven't had issues in the 20,000 miles I've had with my N52 and will be doing a Blackstone analysis next change on both.

Try 5w-40 oil to slow down the leak. And when doing oil changes buy two 5L jugs. It's more cost effective per liter.

Also I don't think the rotella is that good against wear.

I can't understand what he's saying but pretty much shows how much force is applied before the bearings seize. If rotella isn't in this video it was in one of his previous one's.

thats great to know. looking forward to the results. I can vouch that t6 oil itself is good oil because i use it in my diesel truck. but for a bmw i just had to ask if anybody else is using it because oil pressure and its cleanliness is very important to these engines to perform properly.

I dont have an oil leak. I kinda wish i did cause then ill know where the oil is going and then i can fix it but the oil is disappearing. I replaced my ccv a few weeks ago and it did help alot with the oil consumption, i added 1 quart today and now its 1 quart every 3k miles. but its still consuming oil.

interesting video. but i dont understand.

It could the quality of oil that you're using to be an issue now. The oil might be burning off.

I have used Rotella T4 and T6 as well as Mobil 1 5-30.

What I have found is that the Rotella has more detergent in it.
I use it for a couple of oil changes to 'clean' the engine and then switch to Mobil 1 5-30.
Mobil 1 has better lubrication qualities, Rotella has better cleaning properties.

Both are good oils. I did find that I burned a little oil with the Rotella.

Mostly because of it's higher detergents and cleaning.

I haven't used Rotella T6 in my 3 series but have run it in my Audis with good results. I've run BMW branded oil which worked just fine, Mobil 1 Euro formula, and Castrol Syntec Euro in my 328. My car seems to run smoother and quieter with Castrol. I wouldnt have any concerns running T6 in my car.
