Adaptive suspension + 20" wheels: still comfortable?

How hard or comfortable is a G30 with 20" wheels and adaptive suspension?

G31 with adaptive on 20" is super comfortable

I have 20" with adaptive but wouldn't call it super comfortable. In fact I find it somewhat crashy on bad roads. The ride is noticeably more refined on my 18" winter set. If you're looking for Citroen levels of comfort (you'll never get there with a BMW though :-)), then definitely go for a smaller wheel set. In any case, I would test drive it before deciding!

The 20s look so good though

The 540i M Sport with Adaptive I had was very comfortable, smooth and quiet.

TYRE pressures make a huge difference on this car, and which tyres you have, I had Michelin and they were great.

Running the pressure as indicated on the door sill, did you lower yours?

No idea on the tyres, would have to check when I get home. They came with the car, guessing Pirelli P-zero.

20" + M Sport Suspension = comfortable

I start to think that comfort is a relative term.

Just FYI. There's a setting in the iDrive to set the tire size. It works in conjunction with the tpms to determine the correct pressure for a given tire size. I went from 18 to 20s, and the appropriate pressure went up to 42 or 45 psi from the low 30s when I was running the 18s.

Agree, perhaps today's 'comfort' has a different benchmark than years ago. 20" on M-sport suspension may be pretty good for what it is, but does become unsettled as road conditions deteriorate. IMO, comfort is therefore compromised.

Haven't tested with adaptive, but I'd expect improved levels of comfort and ride refinement. Same as we see with the F10/11 with adaptive suspensions.

Why does EVERY review you see online imply that Adaptive Drive is vitally important?
Whenever I try to get a test drive in a car with that feature, dealers never seem to have one ... one told me they 'hardly ever' sell a car with that feature. Maybe it's more popular in the performance models (rather than my ordinary 520d)?

Talking with a few sales guys, suspensions don't typically sell cars, something like upgraded wheels do. I've always found this a hard one to quantify. Some folks complain about ride quality, won't look at the suspension upgrade, but pay money and add wheels which compromise it even more.

I've concluded 'best' ride quality isn't high up on most user's priority list.

I'll admit it, yes pensioner status.

I've never really liked the higher suspension frequencies which typically come with stiff suspensions. I like a sport biased suspension which is still quite supple, but preferably a system which tightens up on demand. That's why I like selective frequency 'passive' dampers, (something like the Koni FSD) and find adaptive systems widen the comfort envelope even more.
