I don't think there's a setting to change how sensitive the sensors are. but I know mine trigger audible alerts at at least 1.5ft, but I think it's more like 2+. I'd definitely get those checked.

Mine go off at about 1.5 feet as well. Like Ragnarkov said-take it to the dealer to get it checked out.

I’ve checked the distance occasionally by opening the door and looking back, and boom, it slams on the brake and shifts to park. Lesson learned: get the distance right using the camera, and don’t open any door while rolling slowly forward or backward.
Interesting side note... I drove a new Subaru Outback while SUV shopping, and that car would actually emergency brake in reverse if the driver was going to contact a fixed object.
