Technique to get crackles and pops

I learned an easy technique to get the sport exhaust to crackle and pop at will from watching The Straight Pipes review of a Jag F-Type SVR.

Make sure you are in:
Manual shift mode
Sport Plus Engine mode

In any gear above 1st, rev to 2.5k, let off the throttle and then very lightly give the throttle a quick millimeter of pressure and let off. You’ll get about a dozen crackles and pops and can annoy the hell out of your neighbors!

I’m not sure if this technique works with the standard exhaust. If not, it’s a great reason to spend the $2k on the Sport exhaust!

I have to try that, I noticed if I let throttle at 4-5 not much is happening. Magic is at around 2- 3K . Also keeping it in that range and like you said touch it slightly and it those the same trick.

Anyone know if it gets better with time? I've only gotten it to pop once. I have the M performance exhaust and only have 500 km on it so far.

Yeah, it needs heat and it takes about 2k miles to be louder too.
I have Eisenman with mid pipes without resonator and it did it right away

The only "real" performance gains to be had on this platform is a tune / piggy and dps.

The reality is that the exhausts on these cars are really more about sound than anything else as the performance gains are negligible; freeing up 5-10 hp and a couple of pounds is not going to do anything on a car w/ these power levels.

At least with Porsche (with my 991.2 GTS for sure) and I can swap modes to eliminate the burbles.

Sport mode creates the artificial farts while Sport Plus is all LeMans shreiks... I like the option.

I would guess here with the F90's that because the cabin is so insulated, just hearing any resemblance of an exhaust is something wanted. I know I was ok with my FE test drive and the M Sport but the non Sport was too tame.

M5 exhaust is underwhelming to say the least; this was true in the F10 M5 as well although the cabin was a little less insulated IMO.

I've only spent limited time behind the wheel of the F90 M5 and the cabin is exceptionally well insulated so really only ASD coming through.

Waiting on my M5 Comp to make a determination as to what to do with the exhaust; Sport Exhaust sounds OK from I've seen in a couple of videos.

Knowing myself, will more than likely seek out something with a bit more growl.

Ya, it does it with the standard exhaust too...just not really cracks and pops...as much as just deeper fart sounding stuff. This is the reason I am getting the Sport mid pipes installed in a couple weeks. I miss the cracks and pops of my Mustang GT350.

Actually, we care how our car performs, thus the reason we spent six figures on a car rather than bolting an obnoxious exhaust to a 4 banger.

Please never use the word “gayer” again. Thank you for listening.
