PPF in the UK?
Just wondering if anyone has had Paint Protection Film applied to their G01, and if so, what did you pay?
I’ve been quoted £450 per bumper by a company in Ascot, which seems ridiculous, and more than the cost of painting the bumper if it gets scratched. To protect the whole car is nearly £3000! I’m in Surrey, if anyone knows anyone locally. |

I am not sure if this Paint protection is same as PPF. When I bought the X3 dealer first tried to sale this Paint Protection for CAD $500 but I was not convinced. Then he offered CAD 450 and also offered free replacement of key Fob for 5 years. So finally I agreed. I am now really curious if this Paint Protection is same as PPF. If anyone knows please let me know. Also What is this Paint Protection and how long it would last? Thanks |

Apples and oranges.
Your paint protection is a coating, like wax or polish (probably ceramic). PPF is a film, kinda like a vinyl wrap, kinda like sheets of clear sellotape. £3k for full body PPF on something the size of an X3 isn’t terrible actually! I get the front end done (front bumper, front wings, bonnet, a pillars, mirrors, and sills) for about £1k from a place called Autocurators near Reading/Basingstoke. Brilliant job. Well worth it. For £1500 they do all the PPF and ceramic the rest of the car, makes it so easy to clean too. |

I've seen cheap PPF applied by inexperience people - it's not pretty.
Decent PPF costs money, and applying it requires time and skill. But i'm also in the wrong business (if that helps!)

Has anyone seen any pre cut pieces for the G01? I only want to do the front and rear bumper, but at £900 I’d rather leave the money in the bank & get them painted if they ever get damaged (a good friend works in a BMW approved bodyshop, so I’d get mates rates). |

I applied 3M ppf (purchased from Amazon) myself and saved $$. The difficulty is in tracing a template that followes the body lines perfectly. Took me 2 Saturday’s. The actual application is easy and fun. If you makes a mistake, peel it off, cut another piece and practice makes perfect. A hair dryer is helpful in stretching around edges etc. In Southern California the cost to ppf the front bumper/facia is $700+. My cost: $60. You can purchase a complete pre-cut film for the G01 from this online source:

In the US, professionally-installed PPF prices can vary by quite a bit, depending on PPF brand and installer skill. For professional installations, you definitely want a skilled installer -- one who'll take their time doing any necessary paint correction (not that a brand-new G01 should need much). As an example, I spent the equivalent of over £4000 for just the full front and sides (not a complete wrap). I went with perhaps the most expensive brand in the US, and the installers took 4 days.

As for how long they'll last, again it depends upon what was used. Probably anywhere from a few months to a couple years or more. I'm making a totally-wild-*ss guess, but I'd say that anything most dealers would do for that price, would probably last no more than a year (possibly less).
