Sirius Radio....anyone install one before?

I installed two. One by the dealer and one by the factory. I think DIY would be tricky for this, and even then you would have to have all the programming done by the dealership.

Ledzep, I have the sat. wiring prep, but didn't get the actual sat. radio. It is around $600 I think. Is that for a lifetime subscription as well, or just the unit and installation? I also heard that there was quite a bit of lag time while switching the channels on the bmw version.

hotsand5: afiw all sirius be it factory install and dealer install sirius kit come with 1 year subscription (upgradeable). Dealer Install Sirius (for sat prep cars) have been quoted as high as 800-900 bucks (incl labor).

Not too happy with the factory sirius option ... there is a noticeable lag between channel - either through presets or manual selection (not good for habitual channel surfer like myself), the sound is sub-CD and coming out of XM in my other car I haven't found a sweet spot wrt programming/content. Missing features (compared to my humble XM roady) include song info store and song memory (automatic alert when favorite song is playing in another channel) and direct (channel #) access ...

Overall reception (DC metro) is good and consistent. I did have an issue with the unit deactivating - 1 800 number showed up (it activated by itself later on the day)...

I've got the factory installed Sirius unit:

1. There is a substantial delay time between switching channels (either with presets or direct); much more delay than with the Sirus Sportster add-on unit on my previous vehicle.

2. Sound quality is about the same as my old Sirius unit; below CD but above MPEG or broadcast FM in sound quality. Overall a huge improvement over all mediums with the exception of CD/SACD/DVDA. That could be fixed if h/k installed a dynamic range expander (decompresser) in their Logic 7 system, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

3. The programming display is disappointing. I'd like to have a scrolling status of the song and artist, but I don't seem to get that. Perhaps it's user error on my part.
