Looking to buy

Hi, I've got a E46 and ready to get an E92. I really like this white 2009, 335xi, but it has some rust that i find odd. Also the chrome tailpipe is real dirty. Would you take a look and put my mind at ease?

Looks like a typical michigan car. Looks good to my eye.

When you mention rust, we would assume Body Rust. Bolt rust, and undercarriage surface rust is normal on any car.

How many miles?

The tail pipe build-up looks somewhat normal for an N54/direct injection engine. The rust is basically from driving in a salty environment. How does the underside look? A lot of cars that are from the shore around here look like that because of the salty air/environment.

I would pass with that amount of corrosion under the hood. My engine at 9 years and 130K miles (and I paid significantly less than $12K):

Just curious how much snow you get in fl compared to a north car I bet it sees alot less salt.

Agreed on the oil cooler deal unless the car is a steal.

Agree that living in FL (unless you’re right by the salt water) is a benefit when it comes to corrosion, but I would look for a car that came from a non-salt area. Lots of them out there.

I’ve bought cars and motorcycles from all over the country. If I’m looking for a car I’m willing to travel to pick up the right one. Flying somewhere to get a nice corrosion free car that will give you years more service is worth it to me. I can see where others might not be inclined to do that.....

I would stay clear, I live in the rust belt and I don't have any corrosion on those items, it almost looks like the car was flooded, no excessive moisture/salt should get in those areas; its not under the car.

Dude, that is so common, if you want those few pieces to not look rusty spray them with WD-40 or remove, sand and paint. Or buy a car from Arizona.
I would however look at the underside with the splash shield off and see if it has a lot of rust.
