Is This A Good Winter Setup?

Hi guys,

I will be driving my 2013 BMW 335i xDrive M Sport Coupe this winter for the first time. I am looking at purchasing a slightly used set of winter wheels that were formally used on a 2013 M3. The rims are style 270M (18x8) with a square setup of 235/40/R18 Michelin winter tires.

I am wondering if these wheels will be a good fit for my car.

Thanks.

You're not in the right forum FYI this is for E90s. 2013 335i is F30 I think.

No, a coupe is an E92, which lasted til 2013 in USA/CA.

M wheels have a different offset, and rarely fit on non-M cars. The rears will likely not fit, although with that width they may.

Well, first you didn't give us enough information to allow us to speculate on an answer. Second, you'll probably have to do a trial fit to know for sure.

Since I don't have the M car in question, I don't know the offsets of the wheel, I don't know the actual width of the tire (235 isn't definitive), etc.

As stated above, the car in question is my 2013 BMW 335i xDrive M Sport Coupe (E92).

These wheels are off a 2013 BMW M3 (E92) and were sold by BMW to E9X M3 owners as part of the winter wheel package.

The rim size is 18" (18x8) ET20 with a square tire set up of 235/40/18.

Thanks

So, this is how I think about it (there's a more extensive set of explanations on tirerack.com about offsets and fitment that you should peruse.)

The biggest (stock) tire on the rear is 255/35R18. An ET20 is ~15mm pushed out compared to a stock rim (et35 or so). But the 235 is 20 mm narrower than 255; so 15-20 = -5. The outer edge of the 235 is going to be 5 mm in from a 255 outer edge.

It will fit. You may actually have more trouble at the front, but I think it will still fit.

Your math is a bit off but it will still fit. 255-235 = 20, but that’s only 10mm per side (10+10 = 20) so it will be 5mm further out than a stock rear. That being said, you can fit a 20mm spacer on the rear on stock wheels and be fine so rears will be no problem.

Front will be no problem either. I’m lowered a ton and run a 255 on a 8.5" et 23 and don’t even rub. (i have a sedan but fitment is same for coupes)
