Bringing in my car for its first service - can I ask for "no software updates"?

I have had the 335 for a year and the car needs oil change and a few things to be fixed.

With all the talk about the new software being a pain (increased lag, etc), can I ask them not to do the software update? Will that raise any flags for them? Are they required by BMW to update no matter what?

how do they decide who gets and who doesn't get an update?

thanks

You can ask and see what they say. I have a flag on my record mentioning my Dinan flash, so no BMW updates are to occur without replacing the flash. My dealership has stated they wouldn't do any software updates unless customers have complaints related to the software, like sticky brakes, transmissions or wastegate issues. Some dealerships are good, others ...

My dealer has a Plexiglas stand-up at the SA's desk with a memo notifying customers that BWM may update the software in there car "resulting in a loss of presets such as radio stations and other custom settings such as wheel buttons", ect...

It's worded in a way which would lead the reader to believe it was simply an innocuous mandatory service whenever you brought your car in to fix a door ding or whatever.

its all done wireleslly the father land wirelessly connects to GT1 or some new found glory and pumps the module updates. think of it as microsoft update. except the dealer gets no choice.

you guys have a GT1 at home with V54 and SSS? go torrent for one its pretty cool (useless without the cables ) (disclaimer i do not know what a GT1 is or posess one).
