0W-30 or 0W-40

Gents,

What oil are you planning to use.
I know the sticker on the hood says 0W-30.
But somehow I think 0W-40 would be a better choice, since it would protect more at the higher temps, thoughts ?

Stick with 0W-30. BMW put a lot of R&D into this. Thicker oil can actually cause problems in engines with very tight clearances.

+1 above and if you develop a problem, BMW might bounce you off warranty for the wrong viscosity.

I'd strongly suggest sticking with the M engineers on this one. These guys are probably hyper-vigilant after the S65/S85 bearing clearance issue.

Does the owners manual list any other weights ?
Like 5-30 for example ?
0 just seems to thin in my opinion
