Oil Consumption/level

I'm curious if anyone else is or has had an issue with oil consumption/level.

I have about 4.5k miles on my m40i and have gotten low oil warnings over the last 1k miles. In total, I've added 2 quarts (!!) total to top it off. I've already taken it into BMW and it's not leaking and the sensor is working appropriately. Told me avg oil consumption is 1qt per 3-3.5k miles....

Thoughts? Possibly came from the factory on the low side? Car is otherwise a blast to drive.

(I miss having a dip stick....)

My M240i works VERY hard for a living (keeping Porsche GT3's and so on honest) and after 11k miles it still hasn't asked for any oil yet.

My 340i family wagon (recently sold) did 15k miles without asking for any oil.

I think you may want to keep an eye on that... sounds like you may want further investigation.

My M40i just had it's first service at 8252miles and I had to add exactly 0 quarts of oil to my engine. I never ran the diagnostic to check it's level nor did my dealer mention it was ever low while getting other things checked before the service.

I just rolled past 9500 miles. Got the light for service then about 500 miles later got the message to add oil. I thought this was strange but added some and went on my way to the service appt.

I am not thrilled my low oil light came on but glad I am not the only one.

I'll probably have it re checked again at my local dealer. What I don't want is anyone to go hunting and tear down my engine... otherwise, I did drive it another 500 miles straight without issue.
