Discovery Brake Lights

Was following a new shape Discovery home tonight, and paying more than passing attention as it's kind of on the list... But I became mesmerised by how small the brake lights are , they are tiny and somehow almost on the outside of the rear light clusters. Of course there is a big central high level LED bar but the left and right just seem ridiculously small on a vehicle as big as the discovery.

I did wonder if there was a fault and the actual brake lights were out so it cut over to the fogs, like some cars can do? Anybody else noticed this?

It’s even worse in the day as the rear tail lights aren’t illuminated. Maybe there could be an aftermarket stick on fresnel ring accessory

It’s to divert your attention from the hideous off centre license plate design!

It seems very tall and improbably thin for a large vehicle

It also made me wonder what the smallest, trivial thing is enough to turn people away. For me these tails lights might be enough. Also the fake chrome exhaust tips on the SQ5 make it a no go. It’s silly really as both are very good and capable cars yet I’m turned off by totally trivial aspects

From the back yes, the designers got it very wrong!

I assume they sacked that team, and then hired some with much better skills to design the Velar!

The whole back of the discovery is enough to put me off it, thanks for highlighting yet another crap feature in the brake lights though

Also worryingly close to the RRS in price - the disco is more practical but less premium feeling.

I wouldn't be so sure, the Velar is a weird looking thing to my eye. Some photos/angles make it look good, but some hideous.

Neighbour had the disco 5, a good upgrade comfort wise to their old disco sport.... however they want to get rid already - personally i think its as the house opposite has a velar!

But cost wise why would you go disco when you can get a RRS, unless you need a 7 seater?!

I've seen a few on the road now, they are stunning. I would not have one though, it's undoubtedly marred by outdated tech and reliability issues like all JLR's.

I think it's more a case of being given one last chance, and fucking that up too.

Me too. If a car doesn't have protruding exhausts I can live with it as part if the design if it's done well, but if it has fake exhaust finishers I wouldn't buy one.

I've seen a few on the road as well and consider it anything but stunning - ETTO though

The velar is hugely spec dependant, with big wheels and the exhaust tips it looks ok.

To my eyes its very sleek from the side, the front grill is a bit odd looking and the back end looks horrible. The rear bumper design isnt very asthetic imo.

Yh, I find the front very bland and characterless - just a 'let's take the RRS and slim it/cheapen it' kind of look. Then those door handles

I would rather take a Disco than a velar.
