ECU-flashes and aftermarket FMIC's

Hi,

I'm quite some time on the forum and use the Noelle ECU-flash now after some other engine-tuning mod's.

I apply engine performance mods very slow, just to be sure that all applied mods up to now work flawless. My Spearco FMIC will be installed on July 14th. The turbos will work not that hard due to reduced pressure drop, IAT will be cooler, so a great supporting modification.

But what will be the power gain without changing the maps of the ECU ? My car makes 373.5 bhp currently. I will dyno my car some time after the FMIC upgrade.

I am very curious about it.

Cheers,
Eugen

Im goin to be adding an FMIC with my Dinan flash real soon. I heard about having some lag with FMICs and are only needed at high boost levels 14psi+.
I will not have a custom map for my FMIC because I only have stage 1 flash, but I will dyno it after to see. Id like to see a dyno Eugene after you install the FMIC. Have you ever thought about getting an intake as well? What are Noelle's thoughts on these bolt ons your adding. Are they custom tuning your car after everythings installed?

You will see gains, probably 10-20whp just like the posted dyno. The more important gain is the better flow characteristics and reduction in IAT across the board.

Eugene, you really should dyno before and after FMIC if you can.

I have a dyno before the FMIC. I'll do one after the FMIC installation. The ECU adaption time when you have an ECU-flash is rather long, what I experienced. I'll have do do 600-700 miles with the Spearco FMIC in advance of the next dyno.

Cheers,
Eugen

really??? I would think just the opposite? The ECU shouldnt have to adapt to new code, it should just react right? I can understand an adaptation period on a piggyback.

I had a pretty rough idling after the ECU-flash. It's fine now, 800 miles after battery reset. Boost is reproduceable ( gas pedal ) now all of the time. It took some time. The Noelle tune is a 14 psi tune. I have seen 15.5 psi boost spikes during shifting ( 6AT ) on really hot days. Darn global warming.

in a real world scenario the intercooler will give you better auto-x or streetlight back to back runs but not necessarily real gain. the stock intercooler is quite good at 100mph. your bigger intercooler is going to be better at low speeds.

but too much intercooler will induce lag.

you probably won't see realized world gains with a mild tune (dinan) if you just roll around (freeway) but i'm sure those who punish their cars in auto-x or extreme heat would re-gain the lost hp.

a dyno is very extreme due to lack of airflow so that is where you'd probably see maximum gain
