Actual cost of Dinan Stage II

So am I getting this right for a leased car?

Tune: $1999
Tax: $155 (7.75% in Orange County, CA)
Labor: $120/hr (is that right?) x 2 (1 hour for loading flash, 1 hour for flashing back to stock after the lease is up)
---

Total: $2394

Has anyone been getting any discount on this? I'm just wondering if when having 20 months left on my lease, it is worth it to go with Dinan. I'm basically looking at $120/month to have a Dinan flash. Also, assuming I re-lease another N54 engine, I'm looking at another $2394 in less than 2 years. So does this cut in favor of staying stock or a piggyback?

For comparison's sake: stock ($0), JB3 ($807), V3 ($1611), or Dinan ($2394).

Hopefully you can get some kind of deal on it, whether it be the labor fee being waived, etc.

Have people been successful at that? When I asked my dealer here, he not so kindly laughed at me.

I've seen a few members here get around 10% off on the flash. I didn't get anything like that though. I really think it all depends on your dealer.

It's hard to compare the Dinan tune against any other tune because of the insurance that comes along with it.

Assuming a worst case scenario that you blow your motor with all these tunes you would be comparing Dinan's $2400 vs $20,000 for the other tunes. In this case the Dinan looks like a flat out bargain.

I realize that but to be honest, I'm comfortable arguing with BMW if they try and void my warranty. That, coupled with the slight possibility that BMWFS will not take well to the Dinan tune (and I say this only because every single person I've asked, from BMWFS to Steve Dinan himself to my dealers, and every response is "it should be ok", not "it is ok"), and then I'm forced to buy out my car. So I wash those two things away. Chance of blown motor - not likely. Chance of BMWFS invalidating my lease - not likely.

That was my long winded way of saying I'm discrediting that factor.

Were they amenable to negotiation or how did you get that price?

Mine was $1800 + $96 shop labor at a non-dealership.

Shop prices vary though, so you have to always call before, just to check their rates.

Interesting, this may not be so bad after all.

You also may want to try, just for the heck of it, saying something like:
Look, I have 20 months left until I would lease a new car. If I buy this for the $2000+ now, and I then want it again on the newly leased car, can you cut me a big break the second time. Maybe shoot for just labor (long shot but why not) to like 50% off for the second go-round.

i called one place and asked if they could offer any discount... he said 10% and tax was included... total was $2013... however the place failed to do the install and i went to another closer dealer and they stated (and did) honor the $2013 total.

Seriously, as much as I like and respect the Dinan stuff and as badly as I have wanted it, if I were leasing and especially if it were a short term like 20 months, I would go with something like the SSTT or JBx - proven enough gains to have more fun than stock, pretty easy prices, resellable and easy to install, uninstall-especially the SSTT.

Oh wait, I am leasing! I finally after about 4 months of asking got enough people to give me the response you got with regard to adding Dinan after an initial flat out no.

So, I looked at the Dinan stage II signature pack (software and suspension) that I wanted to add to my car, decided to chuck that same money in a CD for the remainder of my lease term and will use it for a down payment or heck it will buy a full year's lease cost on a new M3 when my lease is up (or I may terminate early if I get too itchy for more oomph.)

What labor? They're really ripping us off with this labor bullshit. While the computor is doing all the up & downloading they're working on someone else's car and charging them for labor as well - essentially double-dipping on their customers. There really should be no labor charge for this, or at least make it very small like $25 which is still a lot to plug the cable in and press "go". WTF!

So now I learned that if the DME has to be shipped to Dinan, which is what is necessary for MSD81 DMEs, I will also have to pay $60 each way for Fedex overnight. This is in addition to the labor.

As much as I respect Dinan, this is getting ridiculous. Does anyone know if I can just ship them the DME myself? Why do I have to pay a Dinan dealer 1 hour labor to send my DME in?

LOL, just messing with ya.

Rear: -1.8, 3/16 total toe.
Front: -3.5, zero toe, max caster

Note that you can't get the latter settings with expensive crappy Dinan camber plates.

sorry, had to do it.
