Is a 440i a better all rounder
Hi guys I currently have a 440i lci. I love the car and it’s great. But here it’s is the but. I want a m4 competition. I don’t really drive the 440i that much but the wife does as a daily. I’m always in my van unless a night or weekend. So my Qs is what would be the better. I know which is better but I mean more practical as a daily all rounder. I’ve never driven a m car properly. poor me😀 but I need this out of my system. I don’t want to buy one and regret it. But no were around me seems to want to do an extended test drive. Were I could maybe keep 24 hours or so. I no I’d be comfortable driving it but would be more the Mrs if you know what I mean. Any help and advice would be appreciated thanks Ian

I would strongly suggest you let your wife drive an M. She drives it but you want a sports for you. If she is not happy, you won’t be happy. There is no mention of how she would feel.

Sounds like you are looking to justify getting an M4, and there is nothing wrong with that. But I know, for my spouse, the M would be overkill, and she likely would not care for it. Everyone is different and I don't see how anyone else can advise you. Renting one for a period is likely your best shot at seeing if it will work for your wife. Your move.

Sounds like you want yer wife to like the M4
have her test drive one and see but if shes a practical female she's prob going to stay with the 440i less obnoxious (in looks, sound) better gas mileage more than powerful enough for the streets and besides shes prob already sniffed you out that you want her to get an M4 so you can drive it |

I personally would get a 440i over a m4 at the moment since the b58 is much more reliable and easily maintaine engine then the current m engine. Or just wait till the s58 engine comes out which will be in two years most likely

Thanks for the reply. That’s mainly why I would like an extended test drive for her to drive it. Don’t think she’s ever put the 440 in sport mode . She does like the m4 tho and would like one. But my main concern for her would be even the m4 in normal mode would that be to aggressive for her. As I’ve herd the throttle response is quite sensitive. Don’t get me wrong the 440 I love and has plenty of power. But more day to day which would be better. Thanks ian

Why don’t you ask your missus? Unless she is a petrol head and if anything like my wife she won’t care and would prefer to keep the car that she is used to.

Your miss wont care about engine unless shes really into cars.
For a woman and her friends (if they even care) it will be just her new cool car, no matter if its 418d or M4 So choose for you |

I was the same, I wanted either an M4 or a 440i with the MPPK. I got the 440 cause it was 30k cheaper, had xdrive for the winter, and would be cheaper to maintain in the long run.
But you know what, I always have that damn thought in the back of my mind. |

I had a 2016 M4 (not CP) and now have a 2019 440i GC with M Sport. I can say without question the 440i is a better all rounder as a street car. More comfortable ride, 8 speed ZF is easier to live with as a daily than the DCT. I also find the steering to be much more refined in the 440i - more feedback - than the M4, but that it more likely due to software programming advances than anything. The 440i came with run flats, and have changes them to Michelin Pilot Sport 4S's and handling and ride are both even better now.
The 440i lack the M4's brutal power, but as a street car that is fine. The M4 had issues putting the power to the ground, with traction control constantly kicking in. Lastly, the hatchback nature of the 440i GC is much more versatile than the trunk on the M4. My two cents as an owner of both.... |

Not sure about the DCT/ZF stuff as I always have the MT on my cars, however, got into the 18 M3 from the 15 335. The "brutal power" is the least of differences that potto my mind in city driving conditions... Cars are completely different, from "ease of power", when needed to handling, and so much more... A completely comfortable vehicle for city driving (90% of my drive) and a completely wild and fun vehicle when you want it to be. OP, the M vehicle is a totally worth the hype and every dime over the non-M car. |
