Will the new X5 have the key that stops transmitting while put down
This must be the best new feature on the new 3-series. This must prevent steeling bmw parked on the driveway with the keys inside the house using a signal repeater. I wonder if the X5 I have on order also will have this?
"New movement sensor in key monitors if key is being carried (and therefore is always transmitting) or has been put down on a table, for example, allowing it to switch into standby mode with the transmit function deactivated"

I hope this is the case.
I have already lost the F15 40d this way and don't relish parking the new G05 50d outside the house in case it happens again. |

I can confirm the X5 key DOES go to sleep after 45 seconds once it stops detecting motion. It was mentioned during the training session I was able to watch today. In fact there was a whole video demonstration regarding it.

That’s correct. If you are in an area where that is a serious concern, then I wouldn’t walk around with the key in your pocket...it wouldn’t ever go to sleep.

Wrong forum. You're about 14 years off.

Hi Jay!
Today I tried to test key fob sleep function and did the following: closed the door using comfort access, put key fob on the ground right next to the car, tried to unlock the car after: 1 min and then after 2min. I could still unlock the car after that time.... Is there any way to verify that I got the new version of key fobs (checking serial number, etc.)? It seems mine don't enter sleep state Thanks for the response! |

You are sure the BMW X5 key goes to sleep after 60 seconds? My previous generation X5 was broken into using a signal repeater.
I always put my keys in the fridge or in a RFID blocker sleeve. It would be nice if I no longer have to do this. |

Can't find anything in the manual. I would presume if the function was present it would be mentioned or would state in the Q&A something like if your key doesn't work move it around. |

Easy to check, put the key down next to the door and try opening using keyless entry after 60 seconds.
My GLE key goes to sleep after a period of time and you can also do this instantly by pressing the lock key twice, if you do this you have to press any button on the key to reactivate it. |

Carried out the key test tonight re the powering down after a minute without movement and yes it did go to sleep after 60 seconds. That’s great as I have also been concerned regarding theft with the comfort access My car was built in July 2019.
