Hum— thought for the day: If a machine does all the painting, why do we pay extra for some colors?

Paint colors have different additives some paints cost more than others, it has nothing to do with the labor.

Do we know if the ride height on an xDrive will be the same as RWD?

The want is real, people; the need is evident. Take my money. BMW has done a pretty good job with the launch here from a marketing materials perspective. Only thing that could be improved is some additional clarity on the "M-Performance parts flow form, forged wheel" descriptions...which is it, ha.

I thought they made everything the same height on this version vs. the F30. Let me see if I can find it.

I always wanted to understand what exactly option S902A (SONDERKONTROLLE PRESSEWAGEN) involves. Now I know: 34:15.

Same 2 questions yet again...

1) does this vehicle force u to have runflats?
2) is the virtual cockpit selectable between normal gauges and the weird inverted shit?

Pretty cool! If you fast forward to around 8:00, you can see the process BMW uses to ensure each car arrives with orange peel in the paint job.

You pay more because you're willing to pay more (and BMW knows this).

ridiculous that BMW goes to all the trouble to paint their cars in an actual factory the old fashioned way when we all know that building cars the state of the art way means, in a giant tent, by hand.

Because if is not a regular paint color, the whole system needs to be flushed, cleaned and prepared for that color only. That requires that everything is super clean and ready, and that takes a lot of time.
When is the same color, the machines go non-stop. Changing a color is a whole process. Not easy.

2 things:

1) The amount of attention the paint portion gets is absolutely amazing to see. Talk about quality - wow. That is impressive.

2) After watching this...I am sold on the design! Took a few minutes to really see the brilliance behind it - light years nicer than the current F30 (was never a huge fan). Finally able to compete with the new A4/S4...

Whatever happened to the anticorrosion dip of the body in white?

Was it missing or is this another cost-cutting measure?

Perhaps is sprayed on, but it wouldn't seem as effective as a full dip of the body in white.

They didn't show it. You can it already was dipped before they put the base coat on.

Interesting I did not see them use the fitment sticks(?) to check the panel gaps, I always see them in use in VAG and MB factory videos.
