I've just compiled some interesting fuel economy data following a 10 day 2,770 km (1,720 mile) road trip in our 2016 Australian-delivered 25i.

We used 193 litres of fuel, at a cost of $AU330 — all 98RON premium ULP (fuel prices have been rising here, and it was over a holiday long weekend)

That's 6.98 litres per 100 km, or 40 mpg(Imp) / 33.7 mpg(US)

The car's computer said the average driving speed over the distance travelled was 75.2kph, or 46.73 mph (the trip included 6 days in urban areas)

Our car's average fuel consumption is now 8.23 litres per 100 km over 48,500 km/ 30,136 miles (34.32 UK mpg or 28.6 US mpg)

The road trip was mostly 2 up, with a full trunk (it seems we don't travel lightly) and both driver and passenger remarked how comfortable the car was — so glad we specified the sports seats.

The X1 continues to impress me for these sorts of trips...the only downside is that we'll need a new set of tyres soon.

I include a photo of the trip computer screen below. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to calculate fuel consumption correctly

Nice, I’ve been wondering what to expect in the real world and was a little worried when C&D observed lower than rated mpg.

I have a new 2018 xdrive 28i and also noticed the trip computer overestimates mpg by about 1.5 - 2 mpg. I don’t understand why. The computer should have access to the fuel flow and the mileage.

Anyway, I’ve been getting around 28 mpg with a mix of short highway and suburbia driving, but I’m only 700 miles in.

Garage List
2018 with almost 7000 and I average 28 mpg with mixed driving. That's even with the genuine roof crossbars and basket installed.

my 2017 xdrive 28 gets 27 in the city.

other than that, I got 37 mpg average in highway for 1500+ miles with my 2014 335 X-Drive, and recorded that cause I knew no one would believe me!
