Siemens Dishwasher

So, it seems like the Mrs and I are unable to exist without a dishwasher... the 18 month old Hotpoint broke on Wednesday and we have argued every night since.

Naturally, I have been left to buy a new dishwasher and am after something with a decent warranty.

I have come across a Siemens unit on John Lewis for £500ish and it comes with a 5 year warranty.

Any obvious alternatives or experience of Siemens?

We've had our built-in Siemens dishwasher for about 7 years.
Been absolutely fine (touch wood) so far.

We had a Siemens dishwasher for about 8 years and it did a pretty good job. I tend to think that most dishwashers, even cheaper ones will last a long time, but Siemens are pretty well made. Having slightly redesigned the kitchen we now have a Miele, which we think is really good.

I did a tonne of research before splashing out on a Miele, best decision I ever made. Siemens, Bosch, Neff, they're pretty much all the same. Miele are obviously higher quality in their construction and you should be able to find one for your budget.

What happened to your Hotpoint?! 18 months seems shockingly bad. Mine is 5 years old and still works fine. Not saying they're great, but sounds like you got a lemon or treated it very badly...

Spoken to Hotpoint?

I have a Siemens, also from JL.
Had an issue within 1st year, which engineer said was a known problem and fixed on the spot with replacement part. Been near faultless ever since (7 years).

Only thing I'd say is ensure you remove & clean the trap regularly - if it gets even a little blocked, the machine registers a drain water error and stops cycle 1 minute in. Unfortunately, the manual doesn't make clear that this is where the problem lies, so it took a bit of googling to find the (easy) fix. Now I just clean it every couple of months and all is well.

We have a Siemens one, also from JL. Had it about 18 months and its been brilliant. So quiet compared with the previous Bosch.

Just make sure whatever you buy is made in Germany.

That’s another that we have looked at, however, the delivery from Currys is 10-21 days 👎

I’d love a Miele, I have a couple of other Miele products and they’re so well built and pretty much bomb proof.

Only issue is that I can’t afford to splash out on a dishwasher atm

It’s an F13 error which is something to do with the control board... beyond my DIY skills unfortunately. I always rinse dishes before putting them in and always clean the filters etc.

Hotpoint couldn’t care less!

I’m glad that everyone who has a Siemens unit seems to have had no issues, the ones in the showroom seemed pretty well put together and just generally better than a lot of the other brands

You can get a new Miele for £523 online, probably less if you hunt around, definitely less if you buy on the bay of e

We got Miele appliances for our house when we built it 6 years ago, all have been flawless. The old Bosch dishwasher we had in the apartment is now at the in-laws after a couple of years in the basement, it too is running flawlessly.

Bosch and Siemens are often identical, they are two brands used by the same company
