Access overhead console?

My M5 has the carbon fiber roof (did not opt for the moon roof). I'm trying to hard wire my radar detector. How do you access the overhead console? I tried pulling it down but the roof liner seemed to flex with the console so I didn't want to pull too hard. Any help would be appreciated!

The cover on the mirror closest to the headliner slides backwards towards the roof and then tilts down and out. I use the term "slides" very loosely, because it requires a lot of force to move it. You can see that there is an area where the cover can slide towards.
