Xdrive transfer case rebuild?
Hi all,
As per title, anyone know of anyone who rebuilds transfer cases in the uk, preferably scotland? Don’t fancy having to pay BMW’s prices should the worst happen |

Very worried mate, had car a year and it was covered under an approved used Bmw warranty and it has been in continuously because of issues I felt were related to a transfer case failing(occasional hesitation that has become what feels like transmission shunt/delay in drive after gear change). The turbo was replaced due to rattling on start up, sluggish performance and car having a healthy appetite for oil (1 litre in 800miles) the new turbo cured the oil consumption but car still rattles on start up and still doesn’t feel the quickest. It’s recently (last 4 months) become very jerky between 1st and 2nd with the clutch having to be brought out incredibly slowly to get a smooth change and the car has started to make an audible whooping noise after negotiating a reasonably tight left right manoeuvre then asking for power, this happens around 90% of the time but amazingly enough never seems to do it when BMW’s techs drive the car and I just get the car back with them saying cars fine

The second last time it was in, one of the techs had suggested it needed a clutch but this was dismissed for some reason, I have noticed that when the car stops the engine in stop/start mode it makes a clattering noise and the car briefly shakes, the noise is very similar to the noise my wee work horse (120i e87 with 125k miles) makes when I turn it off, but notice if I keep the clutch pedal pressed when turning the 1 series off it doesn’t make the noise

If you're that concerned, why not take out the BMW Insured Warranty? |
