M2C HS, DCT, MP Madness - Build Thread

Hi Guys,

Firstly I would love to say a warm a grateful thank you to all the members of this forum that are just a bunch of amazing guys and gals. Even though we have a difference of opinion sometimes we all have camaraderie around the spirit of M.

With that being said, I have been asked by a few members to do a build thread on my M2C due to all the parts and modifications I will be doing to my "precious."

Basic configuration:

Location: South Africa
Dealership: BMW AutoGlen
Sales Advisor: Michael Campher
Parts Advisor: Marc Anderson
IND Advisor: Cat Choe

The Car:

29U 788M 19" Wheels

Packages: Connected Drive services package

Extra Options:

Tyre Pressure Monitoring
Interior and Exterior mirror with automatic anti-dazzle function
Seat Heating for driver and front passenger
Preparation for Apple CarPlay
Comfort Access
Driving Assist
M Sport brakes
PDC front and rear (yes this is an optional extra)
Rear view camera
Comfort telephony with wireless charging
Hi-Fi Loudspeaker System Harman/kardon
Electric Seats with Lumbar support

Delivery ETA:

Name: Screenshot 2018-10-10 at 00.37.41.png
Views: 3212
Size: 448.7 KB

I have been told by my dealership that deliver is going to be way sooner. As soon as end of next week, the vehicle will be coming from the Rosslyn factory here in South Africa.

The vehicle arrived this weekend (6th October 2018) at our Durban harbour on the Serenity Ace Vehicle Carrier - where it will make its way (currently) up to Rosslyn for VDC inspection and soon ready for invoicing. No, we do not have the option for port installations like in the USA.

Onto the good stuff...

The parts that will be additionally installed/replaced are as follows:

Exterior:

- MP CF Hood + GTS hood springs, bolts and compression rails - Arrived at the dealership
- MP CF Mirror Caps - Arrived at the dealership
- MP CF Side Winglets - Arrived at the dealership
- MP CF Coilovers - Arrived at the dealership
- MP CF Rear Spoiler - Arrived at the dealership
- MP CF Rear Diffuser - Arrived at the dealership
- MP CF Front Spoiler/Lip - Order from BMW AG and on its way to the dealership
- MP CF Engine Cover - Order from BMW AG and on its way to the dealership
- MP M763 Matte Black w/ MPSC2 rubber - Order from BMW AG and on its way to the dealership
- BMW Front suspension guide support, bolts, washer-gasket, spring bag with guard tube - I was told to not use the existing suspensions hat as sometimes it just does not all fit back together correctly when stripping it from the original suspension - Order from BMW AG and on its way to the dealership
- Acexxon Rear Slat vertical design - On order with IND
- Rouge Engineering 10mm spacers F&R - On order with IND
- MP CF Roof - On Backorder with BMW AG
- MP CF Side Fenders - On Backorder with BMW AG
- MP MPE or Akra Exhaust Evolution system with CF Tips + Akra DPs - On Backorder with IND

Interior:

- MP Steering wheel Pro - Arrived at the dealership
- MP CF cover for Steering wheel Pro - Arrived at the dealership
- MP Pedal covers in stainless steel - Arrived at the dealership
- MP Interior kit in CF and alcantara for DCT - Arrived at the dealership
- IND Custom Center Armrest in CF and alcantara w/ polar blue stitching - On order with IND (this is the delay to IND order)
- Autotecknic Dry Carbon Fibre Shift paddle set in matte/satin finish - On order with IND

Extras:

- BootMod software - M4CS Engine map, GTS DCT map and GTS differential map
- Bimmer Code software - Change a couple of settings
- PPF

The process:

All the parts will arrive just before the vehicle arrives at the dealership. The car will then undergo PDC and get all the necessary checks.

The car will be put onto a closed vehicle carrier to be transported to a specialist in BMW vehicle M part installations where certain parts will be betalinked to the vehicle (no I don't like the double sided tape that some of the parts come with). The gentleman deals day in a day out with exotic cars and will prep and paint the MP hood and fit it perfectly. The guy is so good that he measures the microns on all the panels to understand what thickness the paint needs to be on the newly to be painted parts.

He will fit the:

- MP CF Front Lip
- MP CF Hood
- MP CF Winglets
- MP CF Rear Spoiler

I have been told this will take max 1 week to complete.

From there the car will be put back onto a closed vehicle carrier and returned to the dealership where the rest of the parts will be installed.

The dealership will install all the basic MP parts (that they can't do wrong) but I have a very good friend that is one of the best when it comes to a cars mechanics and will install the steering wheel and suspension for me at the dealership.

This should take around another week.

The car will then be put back onto a vehicle closed carrier and taken to a specialist (a good friend) that does again exotics such a Ferrari, Porsche, McLaren and Lambo. Where the car will be paint corrected and PPF applied (I am not sure which brand but said it won't be XPEL as he says there are better clarity films out there - he did mention it was a UK product - will get more information on this).

I was told this will take 3-4 days.

Once this is completed the vehicle will be returned back to the dealership on a closed vehicle carrier and be put onto the floor for me to take delivery. The dealership has asked if the car can stay around for 1 day as BMW South Africa would like to do a photoshoot of the vehicle once completed.

Whew! Lets hope this will be as much fun as when I did my F82 M4

Any thoughts or comments are welcomed. I will post updates as I get all the parts and the process of the entire vehicles build.

Thanks for reading so far and being an awesome community!

I was fortunate enough to get authorization from BMW that once the CF roof becomes available and arrives, that BMW will take the car to the Rosslyn factory and have it installed there. I feel this will be the best place to have this done.

Very fortunate. Looking forward to the end result. As long as BMW gets these parts available.

Totally up for it! Nothing better than getting an M meet going in the Gauteng area. So far we will be a total of 7 M2C's then!

Can you confirm your stock weight with full tank and not with any stuff inside?

I will do the same. Hahah

And then it is game on!

cntzl might want in on the fun. He has some weight saving mods planned, including lighter Essex AP racing brakes(will enable 18in fitment).

Yes, Essex AP Racing kit and 763Ms are currently sitting at home. Not sure if it'll provide any weight savings at all but Ohlins coilovers are on their way too Also not sure if it'll happen before the end of the year but next step will be CF hood, lithium battery and exhaust. I will weigh my car before and after the mods as well with full tank of gas

Have you weighed the brake kit? Would be interesting to compare weights, after the stock 2NH get uninstalled.

That's a good idea! I'll weigh them before they go on the car. However, Essex website claims that front and rear kit saves 10lbs each (20lbs total) compared to the stock blue brakes. Since 2NH is about 35lbs heavier than than the blue brakes, so far I assumed they would save about 55lbs over 2NH. 763Ms also save about 17lbs over 788Ms so I'm expecting 70+lbs weight reduction just from the brakes and the wheels. And the good thing is these are unsprung weight savings.

Add aftermarket exhaust and midpipe, I'd say easily 100+lbs.
