weird issue with M2C, passenger seat

Had this weird issue occur a couple of times the last few days.

I plugged in my iPhone using the USB charger in the center armrest.

I put the phone on the passenger seat and drove off.

A few minutes letter, I got a warning for the passenger to fasten the seatbelt.

I've had packages and bags cause this issue before in other cars, but do you think this is a flaw? Or is it really that sensitive?

The warning did turn off after I moved the phone to the cupholder BTW.

It's a known issue in the G11/12 and even the G30 cars.
Overly sensitive sensor, I remember the fix involving zipties... lol
Haven't heard about it being an issue on any F22 or F87.

I had the issue in a previous WRX, I’m sure someone can explain it better than me. However, I was told there are essentially two sensors/ wires etc in the seat and when you sit on the seat they come in close proximity they close the loop. if the seatbelt is not in, it triggers the seatbelt light. I was told that if you rest a phone there it essentially completes that circuit / sets off the sensors.

After reading it sounds like I have no idea what I’m talking about, but hopefully the point comes across.

I don't want to complete no damn circuit, is it passenger seat only? I think its for the airbag activation, my merc does it at about 5lbs

My F80 will sound the alarm with an iPad, but not with my iPhone X, at least not yet...
