Uprated N54 debuts on the new 7
I was looking over at bimmerfile.com reading about the new 7. They list the 740i and iL now with a twin-turbo 3L 6-cylinder making 326 HP and 450Nm (compared to the 335/135 specs of 306HP and 400Nm).
That would put it in the US around 320BHP and 337 lbs-ft, approximately. So a few questions arise: - Will they put this engine in the 1, 3 and 5? If so, what model year? - Will they bring it to the US? - If the answer is yes, will the names change to 140i/340i/540i? Does anybody have additional info about this new engine/version? |

Best part about this is... guy wants to contribute and start a dialogue. Then the self appointed forum police step in and tell him to stfu without even providing a link to the post where the man can read more about, and discuss the issue with everyone else.

I couldn't agree more. There's great information available on this board and some really helpful people, but sometimes it seems to be full of children.

What bugs me most is that while my original post could have indeed been the 23rd time someone breached this subject - and as such a waste of bandwidth - someone else takes the time to waste some more effort & bandwidth by replying in the most insulting way possible. Internet is a wonderful medium for people to walk loudly and carry a small stick. |

REPOST REPOST REPOST, who gives a fuck if it's a repost. It's news to other people who don't make it a point to read over every fucking thread that's posted. So next time you see a repost, STFU and move onto the next post.

lmao, first the guy asks the question, then the police come and bash him, then come the cavalry to bash the police...
For the OP: Our engines were underrated at the time to let off competition against the previous M3 sales. Also, if you look at the dynos, they are at apprx 286~ hp at the wheels (this has 10-15% drive train loss) so at the crank we're looking at ~320ish HP. The new figure maybe the current engine with the correct rating OR it maybe the current engine with like .25-1 PSI boost... link: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=154419 Last edited by darkphantom; 07-08-2008 at 02:49 PM.. |

BMW has always been on the conservative side for HP rating and I don't believe they simply decided to "change the scale". I also noticed the CO2 emmissions seem different than the 335i specs on the bmw.de site, although this could also be the effect of extra weight/aero/exhaust and tuning. There have been rumors of an uprated N54 for at least 1 year now - I hope this is what we are seeing here, rather than a decision to correctly rate the engine. If it's an uprated N54, I would not be surprised if it were encapsulated in some sort of a "performance" package for the 1/3 - call it a Perf Package, or tii or whatever. That's why I was wondering if there are anything solid on this, whitepapers or announcements that I missed... |

^ thanks for correcting me. But yeah, if you're paying almost 50% more for a 7 series, I wouldn't want to have the same hp a 3 series...atleast that's the mentality

Had this been a repost of say, something posted a FEW MONTHS ago then all of your comments would be understandable. But given the fact that it was posted 4 DAYS ago justifies the bashing. And it really is not bashing, just some dry humor. If you would be on here more often, then you would know that, but since you come on here once in a blue moon, you don't. and if you don't like it, go buy a fucking Audi.

News to me also.
I think it sucks though to call it a 740. What's wrong with a 735? Too cheap for a 7 series?

Well the reason for calling it a "335i" in the first place was because of the extra power it generated, similar to a 3.5L "virtual" engine. I guess perhaps the BMW PR folks have concluded that adding 20HP and 50Nm torque have turned it into an even bigger "virtual" engine... thus the 740.
