Question 04 2.5 E85 Unusual Noise when 1st started?

My 04 2.5 has started to make this loud constant noise when it is cold started. It is not an engine or drive train sound, rather like a fuel pump, or hydraulic pump with constand medium pitch noise. It subsides after several minutes. The car has 17,500 miles on it. The noise is located behind the drivers seat. Warranty is up in 60 days. Any suggestions before I take it to the dealer for it's last check-up. Battery is original and on the charger as I type this. Suggestions or idential symptoms feedback appreciated.

Could be the fuel pump like you mentioned. Had a problem with the fuel pump on my last Z4 and problem fitted your description.

Not an SMG

It's stick and I'm thinking the fuel filter might be dirty which is causing the fuel pump to push a lot of pressure when first started, however, pick-up under accleration is OK.

Just found out it's the sending unit next to the tank. A tech bullitin was issued. If the sending unit doesn't fix the issue, then the pump & tank unit get replaced. Warranty issue (17K & 46 months old). The dealer has seen three of these in the last 2 years.

I realize this is an old thread, but the problem sounds like my current problem on a '05 Z4 3.0. Anybody have access to a copy of the tech bulletin or addl info?
