Winter Tyre Storage

Rang the local Stealers today and asked for cost of swapping my wheels. She said that she thought cost was £30.00 if I wanted to store the Summers with them or around £85.00 if I wanted them swapping and took them home again.

She may have it wrong, she didn't sound sure but why would they charge much less when they have to store them?

Any ideas:

I presume they have a fee for storing them on top so would be making more money long term.

Mine is £36 per switch over (so £72 per year) and that includes storage. Seems a bit odd to charge more if you take them home.

You can actually do the switch overs at different dealers if you want, since they are stored centrally.

What is the annual cost with 2 changes and 12 months of storage? Surely it's not £172? (2 x 50 + 2 x 36)

Mine are stored at the dealer premises, not centrally.

Yep. Mine are with Bowker and go centrally to BMW Europe. Halliwell Jones store them at their premises.

Annually you are talking winters on in say November for thats £86 then in April you swap back over so thats £86. So yeah £172 per year.

I probably have around 100 active customers doing that each year.

That does sound more than I would be willing to pay for one of the few car-related jobs I can do myself.

I pay £72 a year for each of our 2 cars. I assume that my dealer is doing it close to cost price in order to encourage visits to the dealership and the potential for additional winter wheel/tyre and perhaps other sales.

Perhaps they are yes. They might also be storing the wheels on site and not using BMW storage solution. We started that way but soon ran out of space.

Rang again today and they confirmed £30 each swap and they store them on site at BMW Stockport. Not sure if that includes VAT but sounds similar to others on here. Booked in for next Tue.
