Anyone have an issue getting their steering wheel on center after a front end alignment? Had my fronts replaced at 22,000 miles ( standard good year all season ) which then required a software update on the steering because I wasn't happy with the centering of the wheel. It's still not like it was prior to the alignment and IMO the software update merely masks the issue, by making the steering dynamics less precise.
I don't know... looking to hear if anyone has a similar experience and what might have been done to resolve.

I went to 2 local shops do front alignment, both times steering wheel was not in center, than took it to dealer, steering wheel is dead center, and car feels like it wants to go straight. Local shops put reflectors on tire to do alignment, while dealer put reflectors on wheels, the wheels have small holes by lug nuts so i believe this method is more precise.

Pretty simple. If you had the dealer do the alignment...bring it back and show them how the steering wheel is off centered. Hard to argue with that

Why did changing to new tires require a software update? Was this after an alignment with the old tires? Showing some issue outside the scope of an alignment? Was the software simply to the latest version, or more specific, to try and sort a problem? |

Forward a few months now and I still don't like the way it feels. Isn't reading like any other F10 owners have run into this "software" update.

I recall there were some users who had the pull issue on early models, all sorts of fixes were tried to cure the problem. Included re-positioning of suspension parts and I'm sure there were software updates. From my experience, these cars can be very steering sensitive, depend on the correct SAS (Steering Angle Sensor) calibration/steering wheel position. As the sensing is via the rack, it is important that the steering wheel is on-center after the alignment, or the rack is not at absolute zero when driving straight ahead. A 'zero' mid position determines steering precision. |
