Track Recommendations;
Hey guys!
I'm looking to take my car to a track when I'm finished with break in! I was wondering what you guys recommend for preparation. I know the big ones are: Brake pads Fluid (I've heard Helmet is a must?) Track Tires Track gloves Wondering what products you guys recommend for these I will probably be getting the Brake Pads and fluids before my first track day not sure if I will be purchasing Tires yet since I might just wait for my stock tires to go so I can grab some PS4S which I've heard is good enough for track days? Helmet I'll probably grab too but I'm not sure if this is required before going on track? |

Just get pads and fluid done for your first outing. Helmet is a must whether or not its a requirement for your track and organizer. Just get an open faced helmet if you're never going to be an open wheel car.
This is your first track day. The PSS will be more than enough for you to learn the car and feel what is needed in the future if you plan to pursue more track days. A lot of people think its a great idea until the running costs really add up and most quit. Gloves are up to you and how your hands sweat. I don't wear gloves for the M2C but I do for my Atom. Just go have fun and feel it out. If you love it then come back and research more. |

Being that its your first ever track day. You're probably fine with a decent brake flush of higher temp fluid like Motul 600 or 660 rbf. I'd skip the pads for now as the stock ones are quite adequate. Have fun.

Honestly, the car as is, will be sufficient for that stuff. Helmets can be rented, but might want your own so you're not getting other people's sweat |

Plenty of information in the tracking section on most of your questions. On the helmet front if you think you will likely do more than one day they are worth buying. In addition to the loaner helmets being nasty they chances are high that they will be well used, not the highest safety spec and likely won't fit properly (unless you get lucky). From my perspective this is not an area to skimp. You will see all helmets meet the Snell 2015 spec but it should be noted that the FIA did not accept this standard for the for 60cm or larger size helmets so if you have a big head like me you probably want to make sure it also meets the FIA spec. Cheaper helmets most likely will not. Also on helmets talk with a proper safety shop like Northstar Motorsports before you order a helmet, not only size but shape of your head is a significant factor. Bell helmets are round others like Stilo are more oblong so while a Bell doesn't fit me well a Stilo in the same size fits perfect.

Don’t you guys need helmet, fire extinguisher, harness, secondary bonnet restraint and a full cavity search before each track day? Or is that just down here?

Front pads are BMW specific, rear pads are used in multiple cars (Audi R8, Maclaren F1, Lamborghini Huracan, Gallardo, Murcielago, Nissan GTR etc.) Check applications at Pagid sites for M4 with CCB for more info about rear pads. |

I was hoping for PFC but looking at their site it looks like they only have; 08 compound 1609.08.17.44 Front 1656.08.16.44 Rear 11 compound 1609.11.17.44 Front 1656.11.16.44 Rear I'd like to get the 08's but I believe these numbers reference the M4 with standard brakes. OR at least they don't specify. There is a diagram of the size of the pad however which is similar to the thickness you mentioned: |

I did find the same number but with a 44 at the end which fits the GTR (among other cars) - funny that they don't mention or know it fits the M4 with Carbon Ceramic Brakes. Anyway I filled in the 08 in place of XX for the desired compound and they appear to be the same shape as you listed 1287. So I assume they will work for the rear. Too bad front is BMW specific - I love the 08's but the pagids look to be a decent enduro style pad as well. |

I bought a full set of Pagid RS29 endurance pads to go on the M2C when it arrives, great fast road and occasional track day pad.
Standard pads are the weak link in BMW brakes IMO. Made of chocolate I think... |

Do these ones have a really audible squeal for city driving? Should I assume all of the good track brake pads do?

I used them on my old 335i and they were great, but i don't do much city driving.
Sometimes they would squeak a little in traffic after a few hours but eventhen not too bad, but a good run and chance to use the brakes at speed soon sorted that. |
