Thumbs down Swiss customs ruins RISS Racing oil catch can

Hi,

Got my black 335i RISS Racing oil catch can today. A beautiful thing of work and quite useful. However, the Swiss customs disassembled it ( I guess to see whether something could be inside ). They failed on reassembling, the screws have been overtightened and the screw threads are destroyed now. So my oil catch can is worthless.

I highly recommend that RISS does not send assembled oil catch cans on international orders.

I even can't open the catch can, thus the screws stick in the destroyed screw threads and don't come out.

Cheers,
Eugen

You're going to get them (the government) to pay for it I hope?

Not sure if it's worth the effort. I'll give them a call.

Dude, those screws are purely for show, the top was pressed on, that's why you cant open it. Your CC is fine.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Will the Swiss Customs accept responsibility for the damage?

O-cha provided very useful information. Now I just need to know how much pressure will be in the catch can when the engine is running ( peak ) to be able to perform a short test on the CC. After the test I can glue the "show screws" into their screw threads and I'll be fine. Thanks to O-cha !!!

... and thanks to you all !!! We are a great community.

Well, I guess it would be hard to know the peak pressure in the oil catch can. I will have my Spearco FMIC installed on Monday, July 14th, 2008. There I'll let the RISS oil catch can test for leaks up to 45psi, without the top-screws, due to the damaged screw-threads, installed. IMO this should be more than enough. Please correct me when I'm wrong.

I'll report back. Thanks again.

Cheers,
Eugen

yepp, it's under pressure, but there is not too much pressure in there. 45psi is definitely an overkill. I dunno about the N54 in particular, but I was able to hold the boost on other car with my thumb (it wasn't too hot either). Good luck, Eugen.

Thanks. I will raise pressure slowly and check at what pressure and where the CC starts to leak. I'll stop at 45psi. Then we will know more. I did't know that the screws on the top seem to be for the look only. The customs worked on every screw and nut of the CC.

A null amount of pressure. I mean we're talking nothing. Hell, still hooked to the intake it very well could be under vacuum.

Wow, sorry this happened Eugene. We will take care of the issue. We are out of stock on the black CC's for another week or so....It will be fine to install that one. We will send you a brand new one the second we have them back in stock.

it is under vacuum and also builds pressure. both help the flow, right?

There is always a pressure where excessive gasses arise. We are not talking about any tremendous pressure getting released through PCV, but it would build up without it.
