Is anyone’s Apple devices getting along well with the new iDrive?
I’m having a lot of issues with Apple devices and the new iDrive.
What I’m seeing: Randomly jumbled contact info from phone on iDrive screen. Text messages are appearing in iDrive but without contact info. No idea who they are from. Music playback is a mess. Can’t browse anymore with iDrive or steering wheel control. Randomly turns on repeat or turns off shuffle. Same with iPhone and iPod touch. Am I just lucky or are others having issues too? Mine is the first delivered by my dealer and their demo hasn’t been fully set up yet (?) so nothing to compare to here. BMW NA seems aware of some but not all issues. I’m trying to isolate whether this is just an early comparability issue or if there’s something funky with my particular X5. It is doing the same things on multiple devices, so confident it is not an issues with our devices. |

Our iPhones seems to be working just fine. Wife has an 8+ that charges wirelessly without an issue, and my 7+ connects and does everything it is supposed to without an issue so far.
The 1 issue we had (don’t think iPhone related) was that iDrive froze on us once. The entire center screen couldn’t be interacted with. Holding down the volume button while the car was on for 30 seconds did a reboot and it fixed the issue. Hasn’t happened since.

Why not use Apple Carplay?

No problems with ours. Wife has the 8+ and I have the new XS Max. Both of us are running iOS 12.1. No issues with wireless charging or connecting. Car play works perfectly as well. Only issue is the Apple Pay, which all you have to do is swipe up and it goes away. Problem solved.

I am using CarPlay. I have an iPhone XS with all available patches applied. I too have witnessed bizarre behaviors including wrong name disolay, and I can’t really say what the music issue is because I just went back to Satellite during my short ride to work
I can say that the overheating thing is real. Takes a minute or two and it’s toasty. ApplePay problem also very real. No shortcuts allowed using radio buttons and no relationship definitions for hello BMW are sadly missing. There’s Bluetooth audio lag as well. I occasionally play a tv show that I just want to listen to using xfinity stream and while I rarely would notice or care I happened to be caught at a long slow train and noticed a lag of 2-3 seconds from video to audio (audio being delayed) Overall the lack of full integration imposed by the limits of CarPlay are disappointing. Along with BMW not offering office 365 integration in the US makes all the technological stuff feel so limiting. So close but yet so far. |

We finally picked ours up Wednesday, the dealer did a 6 hour software upgrade on the car. Havent had one issue with carplay at all. Played apple music, used waze and google maps, just really tried to make ti have a hiccup. Nothing. We are using Iphone X, updated to newest ios.

Our car got software update on Nov 7 (which we couldn't take delivery without it) and we picked the car up on Nov 9th. We've had no problems with Bluetooth audio or CarPlay. As far as the wireless charging, my phone gets warm, which is normal. No issues with the phone not operating though. The owners with their phones overheating may be phone case related? Or maybe closing the door over the cup holders?

On Sunday when I picked it up. Just 6 days ago. Is there a newer update? Isn’t it supposed to automagically update itself using the AT&T LTE that BMW outfits into every car?

Maybe we can compare idrive versions between JBx5 and skalberti to determine is that could be a reason?
The dealership could of applied updates earlier on one of them. I think regular updates are by phone but this early on I would guess they are making them quite frequently and they may be large. |

Does your X actually shut down or give some kind of warning?

Do you close out your Apple Pay screen? Just wonder if that is creating the heat problem. Mine gets warm but not super hot, haven't had it in there for a long time though.
