fun drive route in illinois?

Does anyone have a preferred fun drive route they take? I realize illinois is topographically challenged, but thought it's worth asking.

I'm in Chi, willing to drive an hour or two to get somewhere worth cruising..

I think I have an M3 problem.

I feel your pain. Especially this year, with the entire state being under construction...

That being said, I'm in the southwest suburbs, and I take a few 15-20 min loops fairly regularly.

I-355 S between I-55 and I-80 -> E on Southwest Highway -> N on Cedar Rd -> back on 355 just beautiful open roads with some high speed 90s. Farm country, beautiful scenery.

Other route I take is I-55 -> S on Lagrange Rd -> W on 107th St -> N on Archer Ave -> E on 95th St -> N on Willow Springs Rd -> E to Archer -> back to Lagrange/294. 107th and 95th are fun, 95th being much more curvy. Area is all forest preserve, very cool scenery everywhere.

Otherwise, best I've found is to drive out to Peace Rd in Dekalb and just go anywhere. Speed limit is 55+ everywhere, and there's never traffic. Great way to spend a few hours on a sunny afternoon.

I've heard a lot of nice roads are in Galena IL... Here's a link. Would love to head up there in a group if possible!

good point - i've been up there and it's nice.. does require a day trip (2.5 hours to chi each way), but definitely worth it at some point.

I lived in Chicago for 7 years and found a few great things to do with my car.

1- One of the best things to do if your car sounds good, is to sound blast in lower Wacker downtown. This is where they filmed some of the Batman movie with the Joker. Enter from LSD (Lake Shore Drive) and it will shoot you out near the train station.

2- My wife and I loved going on long drives out of the city. We would take LSD north into Winnetka and keep driving till we hit Wisconsin. We would then just take the highway back home. If Fuelfed is still around, it's an awesome group of people with way too much money. You can sign up with them if you want to show your car but it's basically Cars and Coffee downtown Winnetka with some of the richest people in the area.

Cheers

Another route I used to take when driving between the suburbs and U of I is route 47. Long sweeping farm roads separated by small towns. Lot of fun.

Anything out west by me, we have a good group of guys that cruise pretty spiritedly.Plainfield, Naperville, Morris. I use to live in the city also, but moved to the west suburbs about 4 years ago. A lot less congested and plenty of places to open it up.
