Vanos and Vanos solenoid failure beware!

Heads up folks car threw this code and ran terribly ,drivetrain malfunction etc. Now in limp mode. Just happened out of nowhere after oil change.

Code:

130f20 exhaust: angular offset to the crankshaft outside tolerance

I thought it was a crank hub failure however it was not.

To those of you interested this was a result of a Vanos solenoid failure and vanos unit failure that are both being replaced under warranty.

This problem plagued the 2k10 to 12 N55s and hopefully is not a common occurrence on the years after. Just a heads up folks if you get this code.

Picked the car up today and they only had to change the solenoid. Car is smooth as ever much better than when I bought it 12k miles ago.

But are you saying that a simple sensor was at fault for a less than optimum operating vehicle for the past several thousand miles?

Vanos solenoid is not a sensor it is responsible for adjusting cam timing by directing oil pressure to vanos unit.

I had a CEL come and go and a choppy idle within the past month. Then all of a sudden the CEL warnings and the car just ran horrible.
Change the solenoid and all those issues appear resolved and car to me seems quieter smoother..
