Wheel and tire protection

What do you guys feel is a good price to pay for the wheel and tire protection. The dealership quoted me 76/month before negotiation. Thanks!

For how many months? I paid 1k three years ago on my 535 and have replaced 6 run flats...all nails/screws.

Unless you literally crash your car into curbs for a living $76 is highway robbery.

If you damage the wheel, 250-300 will get it refurbished to as new condition unless you destroy it so bad you need to replace, then you are looking at 700-1000 depending on which siz you have and if you take out the tire, it is 300-400 bucks. So they are charging you almost $3000 fo insurance, which you would have to destroy completely between 2 and 3 wheels and tires to break even. Personally I have very few issues ever with wheels and tires, would never pay for it, but if you have a history of destroying many wheels and tires maybe worth it, but doubtful in my book.

That is more in line with what I have seen 700-1000 for 3 years on previous purchases then it might be worth doing it.

5 years ago my wife paid $600 for tire protection for her MDX. Turned out, she made a killing on the deal. 3 new tires and a new rim. It was a timeframe where her car was put into a "heavy use" rotation with kids, school drop off, hard use, etc. It was the family mule. It crashed into curbs in ice/snow storms. It got door dinged like it was its job in mall parking lots. High abuse scenarios. The tire insurance was more battle armor than anything else.

Wouldn't get it now, it's too hard to do enough tire damage to warrant it. Just depends on how hard the vehicle will be pushed.

Lmao your wife sounds like mine. Their daily routine of kid rodeo and mall trips is like sending the car to Iraq. They are going to war lol

Thanks for the info! I was never going to pay 76 a month for 3 years, as I thought it was way too high, but nice to know people have gotten it for much less.

If I can get it for 1,000 or less for 3 years, I'll probably do it since I live in a Northern state

Exactly. I struggled with it at first - but you get to a breaking point where you let it go and just accept the fact that the vehicle is a sacrificial lamb. My kids were 12 and 15 when we bought it - they both learned to drive in it.

Wheel and tire protection can be worth it. Like most of these protection plans, it's a math problem, where the minority benefit and the majority pay into it. Timing is everything.

I like to know what I am paying upfront rather than on a monthly payment. I paid $1565 for tire and wheel for 60 months
